After you get over it, they recommend the Shingrix shot within a few years as you’ll be immune for a while.

That shot will kick your arse for a few days. Then six months later you have to get a booster and go through it again.

Then, you’ll be good to go.

I got shingles when I was 19. I was building my first house.

Got them again when I was about 25. While reroofing my Dad’s house.

I usually get them from Lowe’s or wherever the best deal is.

All over the top of my house. Contractor said they won’t go away for 30 years.

Yep

I was in my twenties on a fishing trip and woke up with what looked like poison ivy on my rib cage and a terrible pain in the area.

They follow a nerve and mine followed the nerve on my rib around my side.

Seems like the Dr gave me antibiotics or something but it went away in aa week or so

No, it’s a made up disease, just like the China virus, in order to control us just like computer chips implanted in our water pumps. Coincidence?

I had them on my temple a few years back. That was some of the most pain I’ve ever felt. The spot where they were was numb for almost two years after.

Had them in September when I got back from helping my parents clean up after Laura. Thought it was poison oak. Confused the urgent care doc and myself.

I thought my second break out was poison ivy. It didn’t really hurt like the first outbreak and I had been spending time outdoors. I still have the scar on my forehead from that ordeal.

Had them in high school. Basically, blisters covering half my torso from sternum to spine. Started off as a small rash at my rib cage, but I had a tingling sensation in my lung when I breathed. Doctor said I was the youngest and worst case he had seen. It wasn’t very fun for a few days until the medication worked.

Yes, had it when I was about 22 around my waist. Was pretty awful. Had to wear sweats for about 2 months, and it hurt all the time.

Check with your doc. I heard about a guy who got the shot and it wrecked his kidneys. The doc told him he should have had some blood-work done first to see if his kidneys were up to handling it.

That said, I plan to get the Shingrix vaccination. Was about to do so when covid hit, then I backed off any unnecessary medical matters until it settles down.

I got them last year. Thought I’d pulled my right lat muscle at first. Put some icy hot on it and woke up thinking my skin was having an allergic reaction to the icy hot. A red rash formed and two days later, the rash rose/became bumpy. Don’t do any exercise or work that’ll make you sweat because the pain is excruciating.

I have a client with this crazy story where his face froze and the medical pros botched the diagnosis for a couple of months thinking it was some type of infection. Turns out he had shingles in his ear. He lost some nerve function in his face permanently and gets weird sweats, but is managing the effects well with medication.

a coworker got them not too long ago - she is older but her doc gave her some anti-viral meds and she was fine in a day or two

SO they gave her something to treat the symptoms?

My understanding is that one you have it, it's there to stay.

I had them at 13. Thought they were chiggers at first. Hurt like hell for a few days. Get some Epsom salts and prepare to soak.

Does anyone have any experience with shingles at a relatively young age? (I'm roughly 30, FYI)

Had them at 28. Pain was terrible. Had them on my scalp and forehead. Never want to deal with that pain again. Sat in a dark room and tried not to move for 3-4 days. I have tried to get the vaccination several times but they won't give me the shot because I'm under 50. You need to get a script for Valtrex quick.

Lotion or pain cream for zero to help btw. You need pain meds and Valtrex.

Did you have chickenpox as a kid? If so, shingles comes from the same virus and my understanding is that the virus can lay dormant for years after you’ve had chickenpox and then show up as shingles. If you were vaccinated for chickenpox, it makes shingles less likely but even then you can still get it.

Turns out he had shingles in his ear.
Mom had it in her left ear.

Only symptom at 1st was sudden hearing loss, which since she was already wearing hearing aids she thought was either bad left hearing aid or battery problems. Then came the pain and the rash was in and behind her ear so she couldn't see it.

Luckily this was when she and Dad lived almost within sight of the audiologist office who immediately sent her for CT scan and started the ball rolling on treatment. Mom regained most of the hearing loss but lost some ability to interpret the sound coming in that ear. (2 factors to hearing: volume and discernment, she can hear the crowd cheering but not what their cheer is).
