AMC will probably end up filing bankruptcy.

I love AMC but they’re Chinese owned so maybe they’ll sell and itll come back under American hands. We have WAY too many major US companies under foreign ownership.

Cruise ships are floating petri dishes.

That industry has also been bailed out by the government on numerous occasions.

I didn’t say it made sense or I agreed with it, just using a news story as an example of why the cruise industry is getting fricked over. Sorry some of you are so ate up with the virus talk that anything rational upsets you.

Poor choice of words. In the current day of drastic overreaction, I don’t understand how anyone is surprised that the cruise industry was the first to get shut down and will be the last thing to fully open up. Viruses have been an issue in the cruise industry since it began.

Bars, churches, most small businesses.

Not that I disagree about cruise lines being shafted but my “give a frick” meter is reading 0-1 for them compared to other affected groups.

At this point I think the entire theater industry is on life support.

Ticket sales keep the lights on while concession sales make the money. We’ve now had about 8 months of minimal, at BEST, ticket sales and even worse concession sales.

With movies like Mulan, Wonder Woman 84, etc, going direct to streaming services, the entire business model may be blown up.

If they had a lick of sense, early in the pandemic they would have blasted out a wall and installed a drive thru window to sell overpriced popcorn, enormous soft drinks, and huge boxes of Junior Mints.

They make their money on food sales, and people were clamoring for comfort items like that. The one here missed a golden opportunity.

I wouldn’t have wanted to be the guy to float that idea up to management early in the pandemic

Are there a lot of Greek isle and Alaskan cruises leaving out of Nola?

Their port of call has nothing to do with a blanket statement saying cruises are trashy.

To answer your question, no. You typically fly to the port of call and board the ship there. It will require a passport for the Greek Isles or even Mediterranean cruises. Take a seven day cruise and plan for a few extra days before and after. Norwegian has some steals right now. You can easily do a trashy trip for two for under $10k.

Blanket statements such as this are retarded.

Most cruises (the kind you are familiar with) are aimed at low income people. No different than going to the beach. High end cruises are things most here can't afford.

I am not sure you have a grasp of what a blanket statement is exactly or did not read the original statement saying cruises are trashy. They are not all trashy. Most cruises are not even close to aimed at low income people, nor are most beaches aimed at low income people. Perhaps cruises out of New Orleans may be aimed at middle class, but not most cruises.

I have not said beaches are trashy. A few may be considered trashy by some, but it would not be fair to make a statement across the board that beaches are trashy. That’s what was suggested.

Its really weird how public sentiment turned against the cruise industry during this pandemic. It was a mob reaction.

We are long time cruisers. Had one cancelled in April this year obviously, just got notice that our one for next March is now cancelled, and they are already cancelling cruises out to November 2021 based upon the email I received.

No question they are hit hard. I laugh at threads on here. Not been on Carnival, so maybe it is "walmart on water", but the higher end cruise lines are super nice experiences. I am missing it.

I don't know how they will survive with no bailout and no sailings for a year.

Most Gulf Coast cruises are. Go elsewhere and it's nowhere near as bad.
