It’s been everywhere. And it’s not just medical professionals...people have been laid off for 3 weeks and they are bitching about student loans. One or two months forgiven almost seems like a reasonable course of action at this point because of people that want their ENTIRE debt forgiven.
Sorry you ran up 60K in debt and wait tables at an Applebees, but that’s your fault, not the debtors. You don’t have the earning power to pay that back in 15 years so I don’t think being closed for less than two months is going to make any difference.

I saw and replied that nurses and doctors knew this was part of the job. It did not go over so well.

My mom teaches nursing in a high case area.
She straight up put her students in their place telling them they need to deal with this. Dealing with sick people is part of working in healthcare.
Not all nurses are attention whores.
Also of note.
Her schools board passage rate is better than 80% of schools.
The students struggle with basic math(basic arithmetic, metrics, etc). I've seen their tests.
The intellectual bar isn't set too high in nursing.

True story, when I was in college and really poor and didn't have health insurance I went to the ER for what I thought was a broken wrist (turned out to be a bad sprain). I got the bill in the mail a few days later and it seemed way way too much. So I called them up for an itemized bill. I was shocked at how much they charge for x-rays and normal stuff but not too bad because our healthcare system is expensive. Well I keep going through and see that I was charged $87 for one 800mg ibuprofen pill. I lost my shite over that one.

I’d be interested to hear from a doctor on this.
My understanding is it is a common benefit or perk when entering a medical practice to have your student debt payments covered as part of the benefits package.
I’m not sure how many doctors are paying out of pocket for their student loans.
Not sure if any of this applies to Nurses though.

There already is loan forgiveness for healthcare workers.
National Health Service Corps(NHSC).
Just have to work at certain hospitals for a length of time to qualify.

Unfortunately for us dentists, it falls completely on us. There are no clinics/hospitals that part of your loans. My student loans were about $215,000 and that’s cheap for dental school.

Friend of mine(we've lost touch) went to dental school at USC, think she hinted she had like at least 350K in loans.
She started getting really sick right after she graduated, even hospitalized. Found out she is highly allergic to acrylic. So just like that...her expensive USC dental education now useless(she can't even teach cause of her allergies).
Last I spoke to her she was going back to school for hospital administration.

Point is...there are options to get loans paid off for free. Of course it's not gonna be an ideal location. You tough it out for 3 years and get 75K in debt wiped out? Not a bad situation imo.
