Anyone want to explain to my what the hell the models were thinking that had it going towards Mexico after Texas landfall? Those didn't make any sense. If this thing ends up sliding to Louisiana FFS please don't put it back into the gulf. Euro has a hard-on for Louisiana with those setups.

Anybody know how intensity affects the path, if at all? Could a stronger storm push its way further inland instead of hanging around and stalling? Probably wishful thinking, I know.

It has an effect, but not necessarily in that manner. The high pressure to the NW is going to slow it down and stop it regardless. The uncertainty revolves around how/when it exits.

As a history buff, I recommend you all go read about the story of Indianola, Texas and hurricanes. Link

I've been flying about once every 5-6 weeks the past 4 years...and I still feel like that on about every damn flight. Can't be good for my mental state.

My brother is in Lake Charles, pharmacist in a hospital. For Rita, he was like a mad man my mom said when he could finally leave ... couldn't wind down for anything and I remember being told that the employees were told to writ their SSN on their arms. Not unusual but scary.

Some still suggest that. They're banking on the high pressure building up and over Harvey to the north, which would bring it around the periphery in a clockwise direction. That seems unlikely at the moment.

We could very well be looking at the end of the 12 year streak of no major hurricanes (Category 3+) making landfall in the United States. The last was Hurricane Wilma in 2005.

If it maintains its strength until landfall, that is. Even a strong Cat 2 would be terrible for those who take a direct hit, see Hurricane Ike in 2008.
