Any pics from port aransas?

TWC showed a vehicle driving near Rockport, but now haven't shown it in an hour or so.

Now more than 12 hours since landfall and this thing is still a hurricane. Amazing storm that just keeps on impressing.

Impressing isn't the word I'd use.

I mean that it keeps on impressing from a scientific/meteorological standpoint. Obviously I don't wish for the destruction and devastation that it has caused/will cause.

Katrina story. Local business man I know put together a debris clearing company and got the contract to clear hwy 98 of the tree debris. In this deal the government paid them for every load they brought to the landfill. One one of the guys who got a job driving dump truck for him told me they would haul as little as possible to make a load. They would load it so limbs and vines would stick over the edge to give the effect of having a full load. There was a guy from the government that was suppose to be checking the loads but he never left the AC of his pickup.

I've done that kind of work before for the company hired by the parish we were in to do the monitoring. The Parish was responsible for documenting everything so that FEMA could pay the bills. We had GPS receivers on each truck to document where each load was picked up to ensure that we were only picking up in the designated area and for cross-checking against damage estimates later. That wasn't done by the company doing the hauling. That was done by our people. We also had people at the dump in scissor lifts that could look down into the bed of the dumptruck to verify the volume of the load since the companies doing the clearing were paid by the cubic yard of material. It also served as a cross-check to catch errors or fraud that might come out of our people who were riding in the trucks.

This was all to prevent fraud. In 2002. For Lili.

I guess when your government and people aren't complete corrupt fricks, something as simple as hauling debris away can be done properly.

Damn. That's down the street from my BIL's place. Glad they went to San Antonio, but looks like we'll have work to do next weekend.

I was on the way to b.r. at a gas station in Beaumont and got the call from mom that power was out and tornado warnings. Checked the radar and saw the band just sitting over her. Turned around and gladly the power is back.

Just caught up with the rest of Jeff's
Streams. Left off last night when he was in the eye wall. That guy is one crazy fellow. I wonder if he will win another Emmy for his reporting
