Special of you. I don't know how you'd feel about this, but I recall after Ivan and Katrina and the tornadoes around here, that some peple would just drive to the affected areas and jump out of their car and start helping.

People were told to leave. They were told if they stay they will die. They were told there would be no help. They chose that path.

Debris monitoring and contracting companies are already there. They were there days before.
Goodwilled citizens need to leave the cleanup to the firms and companies equipped to do it. Especially with the event still active.

Channel 4 out of San Antonio is the news channel that has a crew traveling to Rockport. Its the "near Rockport" feed you see on TWC.

Certainly, no one is advocating citizens to get into harm's way.
The contracted companies will gouge the state and local governments and clear the streets, and pick up large debris, etc.
However, there are countless follks who need a limb or two removed from a crushed chain link fence, there are some shutins that could have someone pick up ice and MRE's for them, there are folks that could use some help getting water out of their garages, etc.

I remember when Hugo came thru here. I was pretty young, yet old enough to remember the carnage it caused. It was a cat 5 with 160 mph winds and it weakened to one mph beneath a cat 5 just before it hit. There was just a cement slab left where our beach house had been. SC was absolutely devastated. Ppl came in from all over the place to help our state. So I'd like to return the favor. And since I'm a trauma nurse I could help that way as well.
