I was at a private party that George Strait played at. He did half his set, then called his drummer up to sing "This Masquerade", by George Benson. George Strait played drums while his drummer sang.

And not written by him
I think he only wrote one or two of his oldest songs, realized he wasn’t a great songwriter, and became content with just singing. And that’s fine.
Give credit to Garth, he has written or Co wrote some of his songs.

I think “Wrapped” is an incredibly underrated song. Maybe my favorite from him. And he’s got dozens of great ones.

There have been hundreds of threads for garbage arse Garth Brooks for no reason whatsoever, yet we get nothing for talented arse George Strait.
To George Strait.
To untalented Garth Brooks.

I think the story goes, he was done with trying to get a record deal but his wife pushed him to go try one more time- and the rest was history. Said he would have sold farm equipment if singing didn’t work out.
The guy is an anomaly as he isn’t flashy or relies on stage gimmicks and such, yet packs out stadiums in his now 70s. I’m not sure that success can be replicated.

I cannot believe the dude is 70. Damn, I’ve gotten old, too.

Happy Birthday King George. Saw him at Hirsch Colosseum in Shreveport in 1991, Chill of an Early Fall tour. Even if you ain't a cowboy, you would have loved the display of beautiful cowgirls there that night.

Coooolllllddddd Fort Worth beer
Just ain’t no good
For jealous
Look, no one can deny the lighting in a bottle run Garth had in the early 90’s, but he hasn’t had a song really worth a damn since Beaches of Cheyenne in 95. Plus, he’s a piece of shite.
George Strait has probably had 20 #1’s since 95. GS is a machine and awesome dude.

Oh look it's a song that was recorded by someone else a decade before George Strait's cover version went to #1.
George Strait didn't write a single one of his hits and is half the performer Garth Brooks is. I've seen them both live.
Garth Brooks in Tiger Stadium smoked George Strait's 104k fans at Jerry World by 20k fans.
But all hail King George b/c he doesn't sing for Obama.
And Garth's fiddler blows George Strait's fiddler out the water live.

I love both. And have also seen both live. Garth 4 times: Dallas, Lafayette, Knoxville (in Neyland) and now BR (1000% the most fun concert and experience I've had at a concert). Saw George on that show that was supposed to be the end of the Cowboy rides away tour in Nola, it was boring.
Garth is a better entertainer by a mile. George is a better singer and has better songs by a mile. They aren't apples to apples like people want them to be.

At the peak of songs about trucks he released a #1 hit song about a car

If you like George Strait I strongly suggest you watch the Dean Dillon documentary on Netflix. Just as George was about to give up, someone introduced him to Dean. George couldn’t write and Dean couldn’t sing, but George was an immensely talented singer/musician while Dean was an even better song writer. Dean wrote The Chair and most of George’s hits.
