From the opening fiddle lick, you know the song; it’s George Strait’s woe-laden voice, though, that makes the track so memorable. Singing the hard-scrabble lyrics – more outlaw than Strait country – he’s the most velvety-sounding cowboy you’ve ever heard, even if occasional vibrato makes him sound like he’s holding back tears. It’s all dusty roads and wide-open spaces, as iconic a country song as exists thanks in large part to its perfect simplicity. As he sings it, “I ain’t rich but, Lord, I’m free.”

Love George!
Run is one of my all time favorite songs.
Run is one of my all time favorite songs.
quote:
I like George but as far as traditional country music Garth brooks is the best.
George had far more #1 hits than Garth and I love Garth Brooks.
Underrated song from George is "Run."
Taylor Swift tribute to George Strait
He said, it's cold out here and I'm all alone
Didn't make the short go again and I'm coming home
I know I've been away too long
I never got a chance to write or call
And I know this rodeo has been hard on us all
But I'll be home soon
And honey is there somethin' wrong
Didn't make the short go again and I'm coming home
I know I've been away too long
I never got a chance to write or call
And I know this rodeo has been hard on us all
But I'll be home soon
And honey is there somethin' wrong

George Strait is one of the few artists where I can’t think of a song he did that I don’t like

And I like Garth, a lot. Own every album he's ever done(except Chris Gaines), but he's no George Strait. He's in another stratosphere.
