George Strait is the epitome of classic old country music and a class act. I loved his Pure Country run in the 90s.

If you like George Strait I strongly suggest you watch the Dean Dillon documentary on Netflix. Just as George was about to give up, someone introduced him to Dean. George couldn’t write and Dean couldn’t sing, but George was an immensely talented singer/musician while Dean was an even better song writer. Dean wrote The Chair and most of George’s hits.
Funniest thing about that documentary is that Dean pitched Tennessee Whiskey to George right after he wrote it in 1981, and George turned it down.

Ended up getting recorded first by David Alan Coe, then George Jones (who got it to #2 in '83) and then Chris Stapleton hit #1 with it in 2015.

George Strait has been playing his “last tour” for the past 10 years. Much like Ric Flair having his final retirement match.
He never said he was done with the road. The Cowboy Rides Away was the end of his 200+ shows a year. He said he would do some shows here and there, and keep doing his Vegas show a few times a year.

I've seen him live probably 8 times. His big festival once, his tour with Reba, several normal live shows, two of the Cowboy Rides Away shows, and the big show in NOLA in 2018. He's not flashy, but he never gives a bad show.

"Amarillo By Morning" was previously recorded by Moe Bandy and Chris Ledoux (Back before Garth made Chris famous.) Its a really good version. as are a lot of his 60's and 70's songs.

GS is truly one of the all-time greatest of music of the modern era.

Heartland had to be one his best and he was pretty good in the movie as well.

When did you stop loving me from Pure Country is one of his most underrated songs.
Like many have said, the man doesn’t have a bad song.

Terry Stafford wrote and recorded Amarillo first. Then other recorded it but only strait made it country gold. His studio fiddle player at the time was buddy Spichter , not his current fiddle player, that gave it the classic sound we all know.

I couldn't name five of his songs if you put a gun to my head, the only song that I think I know of his is "all my exes live in Texas," and I'm not 100% sure on that

George Strait didn't write a single one of his hits and is half the performer Garth Brooks is. I've seen them both live.

Got talked into seeing GS in Arlington TX , was the most boring performer I have ever seen, his band looked like they were struggling to stay awake. Have never seen GB live, but from videos of his shows it looks like the energy level is considerably higher than a funeral wake. Admittedly I probably just don’t “get it”
