Deja Vu! In the early 80's they had Ladies Night where drinks were something ridiculous like 3 for 1.
A little before my time but I can still hear the ends of their commercials in my head (the chorus from Dionne Warwick's Deja Vu).

Likely Chuck Redding. Pretty sure he got in big trouble for an on air fake bomb threat. He eventually moved down to Gulf Shores.

Anyone get one of those infamous 'throat swabs' from Dr. Talbot?
If this is the Dr. Talbot that was the Ped doctor in Monroe than I grew up with his grandson and we are still buddies today. True story, Dr. Talbot invented a butt paste and had it in his office and at St. Francis for babies with extreme diaper rash. Shite worked like a miracle. My grandmother was one the head nurses at St. Francis and she would often times refer to this magical creme as Dr. Talbots Butt Paste. Well he never patented the formula either and one of his assistants which I think was actually a pharmacy guy from Covington maybe took the recipe when he died and created Boudreaux's Butt Paste. And the rest his history although I think it's a touchy subject in my buddies household.

This thread is Awesome!! Grew up in Monroe and still live here.
Sals
Sixth Street
Airport
Honey Tonk
Cooter Bay
Library
Bait Shack
After Hours (by Catfish Cabin)
Mickey's
Miscues
Top Gun
Bobby Sox
Siesta
I'm sure I'm missing a few. Many many meals at Cucos (goat black beans), followed by an 6-8 hr shift at Sals, then stumbling into the 50's grill for a night cap.
Bands of our era (missing several Im sure):
Howard Shaft
Clovis Pilgreen
Hard Lucy
Max Cherry - Good friend was the lead singer
Truck Stop Gravy
Bubba Borden
Sparky McDuffie was a great guy. Dated his daughter and friends with his two sons.
Glad someone mentioned Puddins. I was in Shenanigans a few years ago and they have the Puddins sign in the back storage. Wouldnt let me have it though.
Seeing the original Melvyns brings back memories. Dated a Neville girl and we would always go there for some mini tacos!

Yep, probably when he was at 106.
He was the one who came up with "Judy Wagonhead", the take-off of Judy Wagoner.
His traffic reporter I.B. High and his traffic reporter's sponsor: Booty Sausage. He had some others, but I can't remember them now.
He was also a prolific parody writer.

Since this thread is still going, I'll mention how many great (and not-so-great) bands I saw at The Cartoon Lounge.
In the late 80's/Early 90's the bands I would remember as the gold standard for the Cartoon were (in no particular order):
Kamikaze
Trippin Dixie
Anyone's Daughter

The steaks there were magical. They just haven't been the same since the move.

I agree. The original was just better. With the low ceilings and all that

For any of you baws that miss that Danny's fried chicken, there's a place in Mt. Hermon, La called Brooks general store that sells the stuff. It's a scenic ride from i55 or going through Franklinton on Hwy 25 from Covington. Once you've had your chicken you can drive to the Lynard Skynard memorial that's about an hour away. Really nice drive this time of year.

Had no idea that Twin City Mall was so nice at one time. It was pretty bare as I was growing up

In it's final days I think termites holding hands is what kept the original Melvyn's from collapsing and holy shite they got some mileage out of those menus. That had to be a health violation just handing them to customers, but yes, their steaks were glorious. Maybe not Doe's glorious but pretty damn good.

I worked at one of the Blockbusters in Monroe when I was in College there 2002-2006.

It was THE mall before Pecanland opened. There was a store that I don't remember seeing mentioned in this thread, was it Field's? They had kids through juniors clothing. Not Marshall Fields...just Field's. It was nice clothes.

It was just Field's. All upscale women's clothes and accessories. Known for selling luxury fur coats. There was the flagship store there at Twin City, a more scaled down one left at Eastgate, and then the West Monroe location on Cypress. I worked at them all at one point in time. They also opened a location in Pecanland when it debuted in what, 1985?? But it didn't hold up long.

Sparkie or Coach McDuffie was cool. Had him for PE in JH. He showed us a video of him wrestling a bear.

thats her! i still remember her doing 'alley cat' as a piano duet with someone else at the old folks home on south grand and thinking she was the shite.
we were required as part of our piano lessons to do 'recitals' at old folks homes on saturdays
this was years before the band..she was maybe 12 or 13 at the time.

yup. everything you said.
the one thing you left out is Mike Napoli (even after closing the T&C Pharmacy and going to work for CVS in the 2000s) would whip up a batch for you anytime you asked.
he even labelled it 'dr. talbots butt cream'.
