Was going to ask this question to those who seem to have some expertise. I guess you're still at risk if you and key fob are within a certain range?

My 2019 Silverado LTZ was stolen last year from hospital parking lot in Katy. Got three diagnostics alert emails consecutively in two minutes saying theft alarm was going off and transmission needed immediate repair and to take to shop. On star was disabled within a minute and the vehicle was never seen again or could not be located by on star after it was gone. Hospital security had it on camera and it was gone in 60 seconds

Statistically speaking OP left his keys in the car. Still the number 1 way a car is stolen.

The attack vector is your wireless fob- anything it can do, an attacker can do.

It is a blue city in a blue county, and this point we pretty much know Democrat controlled places are among the worst places to be.
The last conservative mayor was in the mid 90s and the crime rate/ murder rate was sky high. Since dems took control the crime/murder rate has consistently fallen so much that even with the current uptick, crime/murder rate is less than half what it was in the mid 90's. And in the last year, the murder rate has fallen by 10% and crime rate by 13%. So you might not like Dallas and that's fine but your perception of it being a "shithole" and "the worst places to be" is not reflected in reality of crime rates or the skyrocketing property values and gentrification of previously run-down hoods. I've lived here for 30 years and it was kind of a boring, dreary place in the early to mid 90s but it has greatly improved under blue control.

It’s amazing with the technological advances available, a truck is still able to be easily stolen like this. I know they’re getting smarter but for frick sake, criminals aren’t typically bright.

For what it’s worth, my truck was stolen in Dallas last year. Dallas PD found and recovered my truck within a week and it hadn’t been stripped for parts. My initial experience was similar to yours regarding interactions with the police directly after reporting it stolen. Hopefully, you’re able to get your truck back.

And for the attacks I described, you can buy purpose built devices for like $50 on the open web so the criminals aren’t exactly doing the hard work. You just have to know where to look

Can't believe that reference took 4 pages.

I have fob for keyless entry/panic mode only. It won't remote start. I wo9nder if that's better, or as long as they can get in, they can turn it over.

Someone had a scanning device and captured your key code when you locked the door I believe.
I can speak to these devices (I’ve built a few for work and for fun)

Dallas PD didn't really give me any hope.
The last thing he heard was some woman saying “Mr President, you can’t say Dallas doesn’t love you!”

Bro, downtown is a complete shithole. There's nothing wrong with admitting that while still believing DFW is one of hte better places to live in the country (it is). As to your points on violent crime, that's a nationwide trend that has to do with education and income and not specific to Dallas nor party in control of the mayor's office.

Wow, I always would park on the street or in a surface lot over there, never thought twice. For auto show in March I passed on street parking bc of construction and overpaid to park in connected garage. Glad I did that now!
Really sorry man, that is awful, area has gone downhill.

The full-size Chevy truck has made the list since the NICB started publishing the Hot Wheels list in 2007. The numbers of these trucks being stolen have increased each year, also.
Tweakers prefer Chevys.
Not surprising.

Are you sure that the truck didn't get towed?

Should have put a club on your steering wheel.
