Step-grandpa still alive. He is fricking awesome. Told his wife that if he wasn’t so old he’d beat the hell out of her for using the wrong cheese on his sandwich and we all just laughed. At my stepsisters graduation from community college, he tried to get my brothers and I to slip a $20 bill down this one girls arse, give her a little pat and tell her thanks for the view. Man is comedy gold.

My grandpa is great. He calls it like it is. He has great taste in food. And we have a few shows in common that we talk about. He’s great for advice about life. He took me to the casino after I was of age and showed me how to win on craps (which I was clueless about)

Had both mine still around into my mid 20's. I would give anything to go back and spend a few minutes with them.

One died in the 1970’s, one died in the 1990’s.

Never ‘hung out’ with either.

My grandpa is pretty cool. He’s a professional bowler and I always pick up old time slang and phrases from him

I make a conscious effort to visit mine whenever I am in town. We don't leave the house much, but we'll always chat for a good hour or so.

Does anyone hang around with their grandpa? I would have so liked to spend some time with mine.

Nope, They both died before i was born, and My fathers mom also died before i was born.

Only got to know 1 Grand parent, which kind of sucked.

I'm super close to my mom's parents. They used to live here and helped raise us. My grandpa operated a gas station right by LSU. Hardest working guy I know. He got me into fishing and hunting. They both moved back to India 15 years ago. I video call them two or three times a week on whatsapp and I go to India every 2 years to visit. We are super close and it sucks that they are so far away.

Dad's dad died way before I was born. Heard he was awesome.

I just moved back to Louisiana and live about an hour fifteen away. I visit once every week or two weeks, I'll go for a few hours or stay the night here and there. My Dad lives right across the street so I walk back and forth between the two when I visit.

He's having a harder time moving around, so we just chill (he's 78). We don't say a whole lot, but it isn't like an awkward silence. We'll eat, have a random conversation about something, watch TV together, etc. I want to ask him more about his life and find out some cool nuggets but at the same time, I just hang out.

Last week we went to Piggly Wiggly, got groceries, came back, barbecued and made some potato salad. Then we sat in the living room and I napped and he played on his iPhone (that he's actually become quite natural with) which is a common occurrence... but it's so relaxing.

I feel bad when I don't visit for a week or so. I know time is limited

When my grandfather was alive I hung out with him all the time. I miss him. He was a great man. I am naming my son after him.

Both mine are gone. I was close to both of them. One died when I was 13 and the other when I was 24. Both of them were stand up men and taught me a lot. I wish they both were here today.

I'm 28 now.

Mine is 92 WW2 vet. He still drives himself to Casinos and and goes on cruises. Active in his yard and drives over for visits at my dad's house. I hope to be that active at his age.

Never knew my maternal grandfather, he passed away before I turned 1.

I spent a lot of time with my paternal grandfather. He used to take us horse back riding, hunting and showed me the ropes of how to take care of cattle and horses.

He also conscripted me into service to pen cattle at a moments notice if I was not in school. Heck, he'd show up at the house and take me and my father too if he wasn't busy working on his own farm stuff.

He passed away in 2015. In the later years he ended up selling his cattle because it was getting too much for him to handle. He then replaced his cattle with sheep to give him something to herd and make some money off of.

In 2015 he got pneumonia real bad and never recovered from it and passed away in Mid July of 2015 at the age of 88 years old.

He could be a ornery guy when he wanted to be, but for the most part he was one of the nicest people you could meet. One story of him being ornery is in the months leading up to his death, he was in the hospital. I'd visit every day as I lived nearby and I would sit with him in shifts, swapping with my father and uncle. One day he was feeling particularly better and asks me: "Son, where is my walking cane?"

I told him it was on the window sill where we had placed it and asked him what he needed it for.

His response was: "So I can use it to whip all these doctor's tails, your tail, your dad and uncle's tail for keeping me cooped up in here. Then I'm going to walk home!"

I crack up every time I think about that moment. He could barely walk 10 feet, much less give us a tail whooping.

Then 5 minutes later he reaches into his night stand bag and pulls out some candy and asks us if we want any

We went from being threatened with an arse whooping to being offered butterscotch in a matter of 5 minutes.

I miss him every day. I only have one grandparent left and that is my paternal grandmother. I make it a point to visit her every weekend that I can because since he died she is all alone.

one grandfather died when i was in High School.
the other died in ‘08.

the one who died in ‘08 was a huge LSU fan (attended in the late ‘30s) and is a big reason why i became a die hard.

it’s fitting that he held on long enough to see our last Natty.

I wish. My dads dad was my favorite person in the world, passed when I was 12. 20+ years later I still think of him almost daily. Other grandfather lived until a few years ago when I was in my late 20’s.

Both good, hard working family men whom their whole communities respected.
