What does aftershave do? I’m 47 and not really sure. After shaving I put on Kiehls lotion and a drop of vitamin E.

I like the idea of a clean smelling aftershave. Just have no real idea what it does.

Wish I could help, but I’ve never used aftershave.

The razors of today are better than what they used to be. I remember razor burn and cuts and the aftershave would burn like hell. It might have been more for healing purposes…haha.

I used to use Mennen though back in the day.

I never use it now.

If i do shave, it’s in the shower.

So other than, shaving cream, not much.

The heat from the water and steam opens up your pores and softens your face so you don’t really need aftershave

I always shave in the shower, easier and better results it seems.

Don't need shaving cream, either. I haven't used shaving cream in 20+ years. The heat from the steam and water softens the hairs as well. I was hesitant at first, but it's true.

Aftershave is to “close” the pores and disinfect the small knicks you can’t see/feel. Not soften the face.

I use an alum block/stick. It’s a cheap, natural astringent that’s been used for about 5000 years

I will second on the English Leather, I have been using it for over 60 years, although I have to order it online now due to lack of local availability.

I use clippers on my beard but when I used to shave, I used rubbing alcohol. If I didn't, I would get a rash.
