Would you rather be mauled to death by a lion or killed by a hippo (in whatever way hippos tend to kill people)?

The guides, according to the lawsuit, 'knew or should have known that the close presence of the wild hippopotamus to participants in the Bush Walk posed an immediate and extreme danger, due to the known tendencies of hippopotami to be highly unpredictable, territorial, and aggressive in such circumstances.'

It seems like the plaintiff and his dead wife should have known this as well.

they crush you with their giant mouths whic also have 4 huge incisors. I'm sure they could trample you too, but their mouth is the main weapon.

Trample, slice in half, drown or shake like a rag doll.

Jesus that's sad. Can't imagine having to watch that happen to my wife.

I can't, either, because I would not allow her to stand in front of a hippo.

Oh, for frick's sake, Craig......you're 70 damn years old and haven't figured out yet that if you go traipsing across the African wilderness you're at risk? Good grief......

Sometimes accidents happen.

I can’t imagine being dumb enough to not do some basic research of the area that I am traveling.

I can’t imagine being faggy enough to sue and blame someone else for my incompetence.

That guy is faggy. And I don’t mean to insult gay men. There is a difference.

Seems like if they could prove they did this...

It further claimed that they were 'negligently encouraged... to approach the water and stand on the bank' to see and photograph the hippo.

They would have a case. That's legit putting your guests in harms way.

Problem is, it appears they sued the American based travel agency that may be unrelated to the tour guide group that they were with. If there is no direct affiliation, the tour guide could have escorted the lady to the water, and I do not think he'd have any recourse against the travel agency. Absent a history of doing this, and still booking with them

Only way I’m visiting Africa is if I’m heavily armed and on a hunting trip.

Not seeing the details of what took place right before the attack. I find it hard to believe they were allowed and encouraged to just wander up to the waterside and take pics, with nothing between them and and 3000lb hippo.

Tragic, but we will just sue over anything. This country is pathetic.

Who knew going to Africa on a tour to see the wild would involve the wild? Who knew the wild could potentially be dangerous? Outrageous lack of common sense to try to make the points to sue this company.

We feel like we are no longer responsible for our own common sense and safety, and we should others accountable for that. Some basic logic tells you that going on a guided tour to see the wildlife of Africa comes with some potential hazards. Geezus.
