Any of you vacationers to the Panhandle or OBA area having or seeing any negative consequences or impediments regarding this algae bloom going on down there?

Thanks

I haven't. I was at Fort Walton Beach last week and Orange Beach this week.

I know a warning was issued for Harrison and Hancock County in MS. I’m hoping the bad water dissipates, or at least stays over there.

Down at Rosemary I heard of a few people getting sick from it.

Reason #350 I don't get in that water.

I was in Pensacola Beach over the weekend and the water was great.

Close to the best I've ever seen it.

I went to the MS Gulf coast this weekend, it was like a ghost town in the closed sections.

Once, I got to Biloxi where it was not closed, it was packed.

I am pretty sure on the Biloxi side there was algae, but someone must not have wanted to cut off all the tourism dollars.

It was a ghost town for a different reason (I think)...it’s the big festival weekend coming up. Always down before a big event.

I could be wrong.

The Crab fest, woot!

Algae kills jellyfish and sharks. Makes it perfect for swimming.

I've heard a few things off Facebook post about people getting sick in a few areas but not sure where. I'd def research before going to any beaches for the time being.

Just left Santa Rosa Beach on Sunday. It was the clearest I have seen the water in many years.

So you bitch about going to a crowded beach area and don't even get into the water when you're at the beach?

Is this different than the "red tide" event they had a few years ago? Went to Destin that week and had trouble breathing. It was like walking through pepper spray

I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing.. when i frequented Siesta Key, it was called Red Tide, and they would usually have an episode for week or two every summer; last year it lasted six months and was devastating to local businesses/tourism.

Not sure why i’ve never heard the term Red Tide used in relation to the Panhandle.. with any luck, people there will not become familiar with it because it sucks, makes the beaches completely unusable and makes tourists very sick.

This outbreak that most are talking about is from the Miss river dumping freshwater for several months into lake pontchatrain and over towards the beach on the western coast of MS.
I haven't heard of any issues Biloxi or east of there.
