I agree. Why can’t we just indict, put on trial, convict, and sentence the bear to life in prison?

I was in Yellowstone when a grizzly decided to make a meal out of an experienced park employee that was on his morning hike. Hiking trails stayed empty for a few days. After that I was way more nervous
Watch enough and read enough and you learn that your odds of survival are drastically improved of bear spray is properly deployed, unless you’re Hawkeye from the Avengers, then maybe your odds are 50/50.

Ha. We had one in rescue who sure could climb a tree. She might have been a staffy vs pit, but whatever she was, she could do it.

But it now has a taste for human blood.
Those people are stupid liberals but the bear is now going to want more human taste.

I just don’t get it. How do people conclude bringing their dog
I went to BC with my family back in the early eighties when I was a kid and we spent some time in a cabin that was part of a little complex way out in the mountains. They had a camp dog and the owner told us not to let the dog follow us hiking because the bears would go out of their way to hunt a dog they perceive is in their territory.
Don’t know if that’s true or not.

what makes you think the bear ate them and also liked it enough to repeat?
I’m guessing it might have more to do with how easy it was than the fact that the bear found them to be a particularly tasty epicurean delight.

Been here a few times. Beautiful area. Banff as well. They have some massive moose in the park that like to hang out on the golf course.

I always carry some extra food on me to offer the bears. Better to share your food than become food!

You say this as if humans are not part of nature. We're the ultimate predators

Not sure walking through bear country with raw meat strapped to your back is a good plan.

Horrible. My uncle killed a grizzly a few years ago and I had no idea they were that fricking huge.
I can't imagine what those poor people went through

Was it trying to attack him or did he kill him for sport? What a beautiful animal.

There would be no civilization if we didn't "kill the nature because it's doing nature". You should give some thought to that opinion. Would you kill a water moccasin in your backyard where your children played?
If you were a rancher, and you were losing stock to bears, wolves or coyotes, would you try to eradicate them? Of course you would.

I can't bear to read this tragedy

Welcome to where humans are doing nature again. Bear did his nature and then he tried to do it again and FAFO.

He sent me the pictures as I walking into a test at LSU so never really asked a lot of details other than texting him, “holy shite”
But he’s been hunting in Africa twice so it’s not like he’s opposed to killing large game but it could have been an instance where he was elk hunting and ran across this bear. Honestly not sure

I’m sure you would earn a nice pat on the head from Sir David.
