Kind of disagree. A bear killing 2 people and a dog is not doing that out of hunger. Could be a mama bear feeling she had to protect cubs but more likely is that is just a pissed off animal that needs become a rug.
and that is the opinion of a very pacifist person.

I don't think Canada lets you carry a .454 Casull.
I was in Alaska for a couple of months hiking trails and doing a bit of photography.
My transportation was in a company vehicle and the company has a policy of no weapons so I was down to a can of bear spray. Some locals thought that was stupid and I did too.
I saw a lot of folks wearing these.

It is usually the lone males that will attack. Bear spray won't do anything for them. I was reading a story on reddit about a guy on a kayak trip in Canada. Was dropped off by plane. Had a lone male hunt him for 3 days. It was terrifying

Humans are the only species of animal where at least a portion of it feels this way and takes the side of the beast that would gladly kill them. 
Every other species: "F**k you, bear."
How do these people feel about household pests? Do they somethines feel obligated to transfer their home title over to insects and mice? After all- they invaded their space....

I thought dogs were good alarms for bear encroachment because of their noses. Looks like they are just good appetizers before the main entree. Played golf in Durango Co. a few years ago in the mountains that had some isolated areas I was thinking that cougars could be anywhere. Ways I don't won't to die is being ate by some type of wildlife. And I love the outdoors.

I respect your devotion to this theory of yours, but you're missing, if you will, the forest for the tree.
Ask yourself this - how many bear attack survivors, and there have been many, have claimed the "ol' keep the tree between us" strategy as the trick to their survival?
i will say this though, to your point, you might be able to buy a couple precious seconds using this strategy, and that might be the time you needed to get your bearspray out and armed

this is a really, really dumb take. not to mention that it's hardly a "life and death" situation. driving around town in your car is much more risky than camping or backpacking in grizzly country. probably by a couple orders of magnitude.

that "human seasoning" headline/ article (blog is more like it) is complete garbage. anyone with even a passing knowledge of statistics and how they work know that there is no way to accurately make the assessment that a gun is better than bearspray. first off, almost any time a bear is shot in an attack on a human, it's going to get reported and recorded. that is not so for bear spray defenses. there is no way to determine the number of times bear spray has been successfully deployed against an aggressive grizzly. DENOMINATORS MATTER and it's, at the very least, irresponsible to discourage people from carrying bearspray.
