I don't doubt ocean acidity is hurting reefs, but - according to scientists - they have been dying since I was born in the 1970s.

I agree with you. That said, when anti-capitalist entities who aren't shy about wanting to undermine a bunch of non-environmental policies pitch doom and gloom on the environment all the time, it makes reasonable people question their motives and tune out.
