Your grand children, what would you do? My mom is having this problem with my brother and his wife and it’s like his wife doesn’t want to be a part of our family at all. I could easily live without her but my mom is very upset with the way things are. My mom let them live in her house while they built theirs and also let the girl live with them while she went to school and took care of her as one of her own.
When my father died my brother asked me if the family get to get her after funeral could be somewhere else besides my moms house because his wife wasn’t coming to my moms house. She can’t stand being around my mom and I know she can be overbearing at times like any other grand mother but she literally hates my mom.
Only time they like her is when they need a baby sitter.

Not being in this situation, I suppose I might consider a conversation about the problem that my children have with me to determine what I could do to improve the relationship.

Not much you can do until she decides to be an adult.

This, all day. Grow a set of balls and put that woman in her place. Moms and dads (grandparents) don't live forever.

Unless your Mom has severe psychological or substance abuse problems that affect the welfare of the grandkids, tell your brother and his nasty arse wife exactly what you think of her in front of the entire family. Declare war publicly and shame them for this behavior and support your Mom.

This is of course depending on the fact that your Mom is simply overbearing and not actually toxic. Your mom sounds like she has extended herself to sister woman and your brother married a turd. I know how it feels. Your brother should get his own spine.

When you say your mom is “overbearing”, what do you mean?

I guess sis-in-law could just be a completely ungrateful bitch, but if they got along for so long while they were living together, it sounds like something happened between them to make her not want to bring grandkids to see grandma.

ETA: And yeah, it's up to your brother to be the one to step up and do something, unless he feels his wife was wronged by Mom too.

I will never understand this. Do what is right for the child. My ex wife's parents don’t like me at all, and my ex wife is the epitome of evil. I still facilitate time for the grandparents even though I have every right to cut them off. Do what’s best for the kids and act like a damn adult.

How old are the kids? While I'm sure there are some pieces missing, the wife could be deep in normal or post-partum depression.

Some of the tendencies you mentioned make it seem irrational and like there could be deeper issues.

It’s a long story. A few years ago all the women in our family would go on vacation together. One of those years there was a chance that they could stay a few extra days but wasn’t sure about some things. My daughters had somewhere to go so my wife decided to drive also so she could leave a day earlier than everyone else would. She blew up! Then from there she started hollering at my mom and it got worst over the year. They don’t come for easter, Christmas, thanksgiving or any holidays. No birthdays. She now won’t talk to my wife

Your brother needs to divorce the pain in the arse and get a lawyer

He may have to pay a lot of money but he’ll be happier in the long run

I bet the wife is a fat piece of crap
