He needs to cut down on the frivolous lawsuits.

I do suspect that half of the problem with these frivolous lawsuits is really just that they provide an excuse for the insurance companies to dramatically jack up their rates. But cut down on the frivolous lawsuits so that insurance companies don't have that excuse anymore.

Louisiana is stupid and behind because the people in Louisiana want to be stupid and behind. Not going to change. But, I did get all 3 of my children out and they are not coming back.

Come see your people as often as you can, then get in your ride and haul arse back to Texas.

We should also do something about the “pain clinics” that are treating the majority of these auto “injuries”. Eliminate the conflicts of interest with the attorneys often in cahoots with these “doctors”. If someone is injured, let them go to a legitimate doctor or hospital.

Insurers do not want a loser pays system in the current culture of jury awards. You’d be facing excess verdicts and the privilege of paying the plaintiff’s attorneys fees.

does he not know this statement means nothing.

How is this possible? La. citizens pay 1.4 billion dollars more than Texas? Cali? Florida?
No way.

Could we put this premium number alongside the cumulative trial award and settlements the trial lawyers have won against the auto carriers?

So, how's all that Tort reform they passed been working on? The insurance Industry swore under oath it was going to help...But I did find out it odd that they refused to guarantee the rate reductions they promised.

Meanwhile, the lemmings continue to fall hook, line, and sinker for all their lying Bullsit...

Wonder what the overall profit margin is here in Louisiana v. other states?

This makes no sense in light of the size of the LA market. It's a bad quote by katc. In the embedded video Landry actually said:
quote:

In 2022, auto carriers in Louisiana collected $1.4 billion more in premiums than they paid out in claims

That at least makes sense but still means nothing. What were the profits and profit margin? In addition to claims, what were the companies' expenses for administration, defense lawyers and, yes, advertising?

For grins, let's assume they made a profit of $1.4 billion in LA. In 2022 the total auto premiums paid in Louisiana were $6.0 billion, which would be a 23% profit margin (I couldn't find a more recent year).

If Landry mandated that insurers make zero profit and eat any admin costs, premiums would drop 23% and we'd go from an average premium of $2,839 (double the 2021 national average of $1,428) to $2,186 (150% of the national average). Still very high, and no insurer would write a policy in the state even at 150% of the national average.

Landry is cherry-picking stats just like a plaintiff lawyer, while proposing nothing that would significantly reduce bogus lawsuits or at least slow the increase in rates.

wtf are you talking about? With that logic, auto insurers should be lining up to do business here if “auto insurers make the most money in “trial lawyer” states. Run along and let the adults talk, junior.

I have a feeling there was some kind of notation that was missed, but I can tell you that my insurance dropped by almost 50% when I moved from Louisiana to Mississippi.

Louisiana is run so badly and by such massively stupid people in the next 50 years it may require the federal government to force Texas or some other state to actually absorb it.
