Call center jobs probably wouldn’t go to FL or CA.

We were probably bidding against Kentucky, West Virginia, India, and Vietnam.

That's about 13 dollar an hour job.

I thought the Dem minimum wage was 15 dollars an hour.

This means the state is now subsidizing jobs at slave wages.

I can’t get out of this state soon enough

Could you imagine the governors of Texas or Tennessee touting a fricking call center?

$27,000 a year jobs, That is the talent level in Baton Rouge!!! Just low enough for employees to keep all their existing government benefits! Can wait to have all these high rollers spending money at local businesses and sucking that free health care at OLOL!

Or you can be a "Fire Watch" for $16-$20 / hr and get overtime and benefits for literally standing there and making sure nothing catches fire. But, that would require passing a piss test and getting up before dawn every day.

These are jobs for people who are currently on welfare. Do you think they are going to stop collecting their free check to go work at a call center?

They pull workers from the Shreveport and BR metros. Smart. They have a lot of experience and knowledge on welfare.

This wouldn’t have made it in Mandeville, Lafayette or Lake Charles.

I hear call centers are very toxic places to work with a lot of sleeping around and heavy post work happy hour boozing.

So it’s got that going for it

these may be crappy jobs but certainly LA govt should be trying to employ LA residents and keep the money in LA. I'd rather the money (what little these pay) go to LA residents, then go to CA or FL residents.

Thank you LSUfan. I see this as a win. Any job creation in Louisiana means 200 + more people who dont have to rely on public service.

Other departments and political subdivisions of the state may contract with YoungWilliams, based upon the Office of State Procurement’s acceptance of a YoungWilliams proposal to provide call center operations.

This has been a long standing political game. They’ve been trying to push creating a consolidated call center for state agencies for years.

DCFS previously spent a significant amount to take over the call center on Florida blvd for a previously failed LED call center project. They couldn’t procure competent staff, so they funded a lot of tech upgrades to make the job stupid proof. They thought after they did that, other agencies would sign on to help absorb the costs. When that didn’t happen, it failed.

When the article says the BR center will open later and other agencies “may participate”, it means DOA will continue to strong arm LDH participation to make it worth while to the vendor before there’s any significant commitment.
