He said he will also buy them for the girls if they ask, its just was an automatic at birth purchase for the boys

That's an awesome gift idea. Those kids will remember him every hunting/fishing season. I'm far off from grandkids, hopefully, but this is what i'll do.

Yep, got it in LA for the same price. He won't need it for 9 more years, but he'll never have to buy a hunting and fishing license again.

Bought my son and daughter's license. In TN also. You have until age 3 to get it for $200

Lifetime is a great thing. In Louisiana, even if they move away, it still is valid.

My dad got me an Alabama lifetime license when I was 4 or 5 before we moved to TN in the 80's; it was such a good gift/investment. I would buy a lifetime license for my little boys but we live in TN and hunt in AL where our land is.

I just tried to do this for Louisiana and the only thing it offered was a trapper license. How do I go about getting this for my son?

Go to the website and you will have to fill out the form and mail off the check and birth certificate. You can make a copy of the birth certificate and get it notarized instead of sending an original. I just did it for my 10 month old. I hoping for a lot of "thanks dad" in the future.

If he goes to a public school, you may have wasted your money. After they get hold of him, you'll wind up with a she / they / whatever and i can almost guarantee she / they / whatever will never shoot anything - with the exception of a republican.

That's a helluva deal. Smart investment.

2 year olds + firearms
My son killed his first deer at 4.5 years. 90# doe at about 45 yards. Used a .243.
It was the first time he ever shot that rifle. He had shot a open sight .22 that summer so he at least knew what it sounded like.
Deer came out and he asked could he shoot it, after a minutes hesitation I said sure. I dont think he even looked through the scope, just pointed and shot it.
