My insurance caused my mortgage to creep up $800 over last 2 years. It had crept up to about $8k after Ida. This year it finally came down under $5k. Will be interesting to see next year’s renewal. Middle class will not be sustainable and will have to leave. Louisiana will be the wealthy supporting the welfare crowd.

When my home is paid for in a few years, I’m only going to insure for fire and liability. I’ll risk wind and hail. Most policies’ named storm deductibles are so high now, typical damages such as roof or fence wouldn’t be paid anyway. Rates should not be at theft level for this reason.

USAA car insurance in Louisiana is on the high side.

It's homeowners insurance is hard to beat.

If you’ve been with an insurance provider for more than 3 years, you need to shop it around. They will always increase the base. There are no brownie points for “being a lifelong customer.” All that says is your agent hasn’t had to work for your business.

That said, USAA is generally well regarded and has a good pricing compared to other big insurers.

If you rent your home you still have to pay that insurance.

Funny enough we just switched to USAA too. We had Progressive who dropped us and we did a year with Cajun Underwriters.

This is my last year here. I won't be here for the renewal. I don't care if I have to rent my home to get out.

Even if you are not here, but you still own the home and rent it out,,,,, won’t you still need the insurance, especially if you have a mortgage on the house?

8500 a year and can’t make a claim because of fear of it being 12000 or canceling and becoming uninsurable.

Yes called and got mine from 5100 to 2933. For more coverage. With lower deductibles.

Mine is still flat 1000$, they told me I’m grandfathered in and nobody will do that anymore which is why I haven’t changed yet.

My policy with progressive is same. Definitely handcuffed to it given the low deductible which we used to replace roof a couple of years ago after one of the storms

I went through the whole quote process only to find out USAA doesn't insure south of I-12. I am literally a mile south of I-12.

This is the reason I’m thinking about selling my house in a few more years when I retire. Move into one of these upscale apartments that have been built a few miles from where I currently live. No grass to mow, have a pool with no upkeep, a gym, a clubhouse with a grilling area with only a little renters insurance.

Can’t shop my insurance. No company will write policy. Citizens is only option.

It’s amazing to me that people that live in LA, which has been ground zero for massive hurricanes forever, all think it’s a scam that their homeowners insurance is expensive.

Should we move to tornado or wildfire areas? Seems those are more often and worse.

Why are you filing? Your neighbors insurance should be the one a claim is against. His tree
