Damn... Never even thought about doing one. I just fly. I would say pictures and a journal if I did do it.

If you are going to pee while in the truck make sure you use the 32oz Gatorade bottle.

I made the mistake and used just a 20oz once and it filled too fast and I ended up pissing in the back floor of a golden girl's mustang. :/

I've done between 900-1000 miles in one trip and it ranks up there with one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I drove it by myself and the last half of the trip I was chugging energy drinks and had the radio up full blast.

I did Breckinridge to BR non stop once and it was pretty terrible. Granted I had just broken my knee on the side of the mountain, which I think that had a lot to contribute to the terribleness.

I usually try and eat, piss or shite, and get gas all at once so you save time. Time those energy drinks at about a half a tank so your arse can explode before you eat and get gas.

I drove to keystone once with some friends and swore I'd never drive that far again.

As someone who has done multiple 3,000+ miles, 2 month long trips, here a few tips:

- download podcasts/books
- ice chest with drinks within reach
- if it doesn't delay you too much, go the scenic route

not sure what else

I love road trips

I've never peed in a bottle. Just pull on the shoulder, passenger door open, check air in tire while pissing on it. Gives the legs a quick stretch.

Keep a few water bottles and snacks. I only stop for any length of time ( or get off highway) when I need fuel if at all possible. Food, fuel, shite, coffee and go.pissing does not justify a highway exit.

Best advice: Fly instead.

But really, don't rush through it (unless you are pressed for time). If you see something interesting or google stuff that is in the cities you will be driving through, just stop and check it out. If you don't do that, then you may as well have flown.

Use GPS regardless if you know where you're going. The miles tick away and it's nice to see progress.

Go through the top part of Texas if possible.

Get a bunch of your favorite stand ups. You'll laugh your arse off and an hour will have passed by.

I have 1350 miles coming up this week. Done it many times. Podcasts and audio books are your friends. Always keep an emergency caffeine source in the car. Sucks when you're in BFE and your eyes start getting heavy and you don't have an exit with a gas station for 30 miles. I find it's much easier to do solo as you stop less and stops are shorter.

And of course, always check beer advocate for good beer stores along the route.

Oh yeah, almost forgot since it's a relatively new addition to my road trip routine, but put Waze on your phone if you don't already have it. Worth it for the cop locations.

I fly 10-15 times a year, so that's not an issue, however this trip is unique and I have to drive.

I am pressed for time, so scenic trips won't really be happening.

Books on tape. Lots of them. Make them thrillers. Time flies. The library rents them. They also see them at most truck stops.

Drive safe, man. Fair chance the weather is more wintry where your going than where you are right now.
