Out of a 100 person class there was probably only 3-4 "original" papers for everything we did.


Just re word the shite. Takes 5 minutes and covers your arse for this sort of stuff.

Just deny it. You may have to have some hearing if the teacher decides to persue it.

No good will come out of this if you admit to anything, so don't. Just deny it. If this is LSU, you are getting fricked either way....so at least make them do the leg work.

Are you white BTW? If so, how white? It will make a difference on your strategy.

If they used an electronic submission have another paper and plea ignorance. A completely different one. Prove that the system didn't glitch.

It's weak as hell, but might give you enough plausible deniability to not get expelled.

But if you were dumb enough to submit a word for word essay on a anti counterfeiting site your replacement essay will prob be " I haz a crayon"

I'm a university faculty member at an SEC school. Here's how it goes at my joint:

If they have copies of both papers, then you're dead in the water. Confess and beg for mercy. The fact that you are going to the teacher and not the dean is a glimmer of hope for you. Technically, the person who supplied the paper is in trouble, too. If they did it willingly, knowing what you planned to do, then let them fight their own fight. If you took off their computer or a server without their knowledge, then fess up and don't get them in trouble.

I had a student doing this to one of her sorority sisters in the same class, long ago. When the sorority sis went to take a shower or use the bathroom, the other girl would pop a jump drive into her computer and copy her assignment. Not only did she turn it in word-for-word the same, but she often didn't wait until the roommate was done with the assignment and would submit it only 3/4 complete, sometimes with an incomplete sentence at the end of it. That one went straight to the dean and the girl that was stealing the papers was given the opportunity to withdraw from the university. I'm guessing that wasn't her first time in that situation.

I caught someone doing exactly what you claim to have done, several years ago. She denied it, even though I had the paper she copied from a previous semester sitting side-by-side with her own. She was given an F for the course by the dean's office. That was pretty severe and the main reason she got the F was that she denied everything to the bitter end.

Generally speaking, though, most cheating cases end with a zero on the assignment and, if they are adjudicated by the dean's office, a mark on the transcript that indicates the student was found guilty of academic misconduct or of violating the honor code. I suggest angling for any outcome that doesn't involve a finding note on the transcript, as that will follow you for life.

Huh. That's something I didn't think about. An academic misconduct note going on the transcript. So if you apply for graduate school or maybe a potential employer wants to verify your education and requests your transcript they would have a documented case of dishonesty. That's a disconcerting thought.
