When you're an observant parent, this kind of thing sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm quite sure I never noticed shite like that before I had a kid and found myself constantly keeping an eye on him or turning to know where he was.
Now, that makes seeing a little kid, alone and in public wandering, look like seeing a damn zebra walking alone down the highway. Immediately you start looking to see if anyone else sees this and if there's a zookeeper/parent that it should belong to and do THEY see it.

Probably my worst experience with a dumbass parent was when I was chaperoning an 3 day camping experience with my sons 5th grade class.
Its called Camp Cosby and the students go there to learn about the Underground Railroad. It is a fairly basic camp. I dont really understand the reason for learning about the Underground Railroad at that camp, that could be done in school. If they are going to take 75-100 kids out into the woods I think they should teach them about different trees and other nature related things.
Well we get to the camp and this one kid runs over to a patch of "grass" and starts rolling around in it. I tell him to get out of there... but before I could finish speaking the kids stupid arse mother comes up to me and tells me not to tell her child what he can or cannot do. She even starts wagging her finger at me. I try to talk to her, but she is adamant that I not talk to her child.
The next afternoon I see her and her kid. He is covered in sores and looks miserable. I then tell the mother that I was trying to tell her that the "grass" her son was playing in was poison ivy. She looked at me and said "what is poison ivy?" So I explained it to her and then the bitch got mad at me for not telling her.

He opted not to press charges because he had sympathy for the idiot. Also, being a local Physician does not need to carry publicity.
The police actually told the morons to take their posts down and let them know they would lose if sued. Understand that there are plenty of booger eaters, window lickers, dropouts, felons, and meth heads in Polk county.

I think that a good part of this is that the good samaritan is a man. Men are by default assumed to be predators when it comes to women and children. Pretty unfortunate, but that's the way it is. If you see a child in trouble, if it can be helped try to find a woman. That said, the father is still a piece of shite. Could have at least said something before an assault, or you know actually watched after his kid.
