All the folks talking about working retail have either never worked retail or are very, very different than me. I loathe the general public.

20 seconds after my Dad did this, everyone on the staff under 40 all started taking weekends off. My dad was stuck with every shitty shift imaginable. He resigned, with honor.

Plus, if you didn’t wanna come in that day, you didn’t have to. Greatest part-time job ever created on planet Earth.
what's the pay? If I get fed up enough at my actual job maybe I'll just do this full time lol

been retired for almost 3 years. 45 years as a Metrologist.
I left on great teerms with the lab, and we made a deal, $40/hr, 3 hr min, call me when y'all are stuck.
and they do. a little pocket cash, and get paid to visit with the old and new gang.
they cut a po to the DBA I created for that purpose, invoice, and direct to the bank under the DBA all sole prop, so no ungodly tax nightmares, just get a 1099
for those in specialty fields, and love what ya do, and where, it's a win for everyone

quote:I worked at a hardware store one summer in high school, and hated it. Helping people find stuff was fun, but when no one was in the store it got boring. I would start going thru the different sized screws, bolts. nuts or nails, putting them back into the correct bin. The best days were when someone in the lumber yard was out and I got to help load and unload trucks. The time went much faster out there.

I always thought I'd enjoy working at a gun shop or a hardware store maybe 2 days per week for awhile in retirement if I could find it.
When I lived in Dallas, I always thought ushering at Ranger games would be fun for an old guy, but I don't know how late they have to be there. Ushering LSU baseball games would be great too.

Bookie.
You're basically getting paid to watch sports. Just gotta have enough of a bankroll to sustain the occasional bad week.
Or you could just hedge your imbalances at the local casino instead of holding large cash reserves.

My dad did this over in Destin. Was looking to join a club and saw an advert in the locker room at one of the clubs. Never paid for a round in 15 years. He liked to be a marshal and drive around the course and tell people to pick the pace. He would shag balls in the water hazard and sell on ebay. Did really well. When he passed he had a small storage unit we found out about with about 50 5 gallon buckets of golf balls labeled with condition.

I would probably do something with one of the local teams. Maybe a guy at Riverdogs games who helps people get to their seats. Or a beer tub vendor at the stadium for concerts or games.

Damn that's a great idea.

I met a 78 year old retired person recently who drives a dealership shuttle van. Said they love it. Didn’t discuss pay or benefits though. Just a thought.
