A new Trump administration rule will provide an estimated 800,000 businesses a better way to offer coverage and millions of workers a better way to obtain coverage, through the expansion of Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs).

HRAs are employer-funded arrangements that workers use to pay for medical expenses

Starting on January 1, 2020, employers will be able to offer their workers HRAs to buy individual market coverage for themselves and their families. The administration's new rule addresses a major inequity by, in effect, providing the same tax advantage that traditional employer-sponsored group plans receive — exclusion of premiums from federal income or payroll taxes — to coverage that workers in the individual market purchase from an HRA.

For some reason, HRA money today is forbidden from being used to buy your own coverage.

New rules change that.

Please please please don’t turn this thread political. I know the president is mentioned in article and this is an administration decision, but the thread is about the interesting policy change that could affect a lot of people

So theorically all the healthy people can opt out and get a better plan while sticking the company with the old people who use the insurance more who are priced out of the private market.

Why should healthy young men like me (the ones who drive the economy) be forced to pay for boomers, women, and fat people?

Choices. Let the people decide what coverage they need. That SHOULD be a good thing.

You’re right, no one in general should be paying at all.

This will give people the incentive to not smoke, not get fat, not do drugs and to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Thats good for them and for society.

Can you post a neutral article that spells everything out better? Is is an opinion piece written by someone in the administration.

Way too trump positive to actually be a CNN article.

Like you said, they’re old people. Old people die. That’s what they do.

Old people get Medicare. Isn't that good? It's from the government.

That’s not how it works, it’s not an age bracket you just enter as you get older. The youngest boomer will be 55 this year.
