I think the Australia stuff could be crap.
If you have followed the case you will remember that they had a community safety meeting where a guy stood up ad said that nobody would rape his wife while he was there. And that guy was later victimized and had to watch or listen to his wife get raped? No doubt, now that we know he was a cop that they can determine if he was at that meeting. And now we know how he had access to where he lived.

He was in Australia and has attacked at least 4 girls there and was dubbed Mr. Cruel by the media.
Imagine being Mr. Cruel in Aussieland .... with an American accent.
So that explains a lot here - but makes him not as smart as we thought he was ... if this is him. But they must have his DNA confirmed by now.
Always figured he was in law enforcement. Never agreed with the Real Estate Agent theory.

Really going to be fascinated to know how they caught him.

Unmasking a killer is the best tv on this case, imho:
LINK
The best podcast imho is Criminology Season 2 which is 9 episodes in progress as of today.

This is bigger than BTK. Probably the craziest serial killer manhunt since Ted Bundy.

Also worked for a construction company which gave him knowledge of the layout of subdivisions.
According to the Reddit thread investigators interviewed him sometime last year and it did not go well, which put him at the top of their list.

It has always been believed that he was The Visalia Ransacker prior to graduating to become The East Area Rapist and then the Golden State Killer.
Well look at this interesting info of who lived in Visalia in 1974:
There is a great live radiocast on right now as well from the guy on the tv miniseries :

The Visalia Ransacker is an unidentified serial prowler/voyeur, burglar, and murderer who operated in Visalia, California in the mid-1970s, suspected to have committed more than 100 crimes. In most of his crimes, the Ransacker would break into a single-family home and tear apart the interior while stealing only small items.[2] Within the law enforcement community, it is believed that the Ransacker's crime spree began in March 1974 and ended in late 1975,[3] with the majority of the crimes occurring near the College of the Sequoias.[4] There is evidence suggesting the Ransacker moved away from Visalia shortly after he committed his only murder, eventually becoming the East Area Rapist and the Original Night Stalker (now referred to as the Golden State Killer).[5]

Rape victim confirming:
Carson-Sandler said she received emails Wednesday from two detectives she has kept in touch with over the years informing her of the arrest.
"I just found out this morning," she said. "I'm overwhelmed with joy. I've been crying, sobbing."
Carson-Sandler said when shown the man's picture he was not familiar to her.
"I just can't tell you how I feel," she said. "After 42 years — wow!"

Didn't we just have a pretty good thread about the EAR/GSK a couple months ago?

He wore a mask sometimes.
Also unconfirmed but interesting if true: the guy's wife or ex wife may be a lawyer.

Yea, I think he typically used a mask and he also used a flash light shining in the victims eyes.

Holy shite
Dude was the white whale of serial killers on the run
That voice message he left one of his victims is the spookiest thing I've ever heard

He's talking and admitting to all sorts of things according to twitter ... tons of updates coming out of Law Enforcement prior to the press conference in two hours.
Man this is huge.
72 years old ... and they finally caught him.

I bet the guy is actually happy he was arrested. Now he can finally get the credit, he probably feels he deserves, for his life's work. He is 72, so what does he care if he spends 15 years on death row. Fascinating story.

An old newspaper article states that DeAngelo was a police officer in Auburn, although it remains unclear what year he started working with the department.
He was eventually fired, according to the clipping, for shoplifting from a Sacramento drug store.
He must have really been a crazy frick out on the beat if shoplifting got him fired.
