I bet the guy is actually happy he was arrested. Now he can finally get the credit, he probably feels he deserves, for his life's work. He is 72, so what does he care if he spends 15 years on death row. Fascinating story.
Yep I agree
BTK has said he’s relieved to be caught

I have seen several shows on TV about this killer recently. Quite a coincidence.
How do they have his DNA from the crimes?
ETA:
And I wonder if he’ll go into detail of all of his crimes like BTK did, I am fascinated.

One of the rapes a girl scratched him or had a piece of his hair on them and they were able to get DNA from it once the tech became available.

The items he shoplifted were a hammer and a can of dog repellent. I suspect he was using this in his attacks, so didn't want any records or witnesses to the purchases of these items. Shows just how clever he was.
I am shocked Sacramento PD didn't catch the connection back in 79. Obvious link. Plus a former cop is similar to a military background, which is what they suspected.
I wonder if he just drove into neighborhoods in patrol car and went into EAR mode? So spooky.

I think he was in Vietnam, so had military experience.

I doubt he used patrol car but who knows

He could familiarize himself with neighborhoods and routes while he was on patrol so no one would notice anyone looking out of place or prowling

The question is how did they find him NOW through DNA ie match it?
Most likely a close match came back on a family member and then they went and connected the dots.

Thank you for posting that. Recently saw a documentary on the guy - very timely post!

I think we will find out in 50 minutes hopefully. That's when the press conference is.

He would ride a bicycle to the general area then go on foot. The subdivisions were interlaced with wooded areas and drainage canals that were dry most of the year, so lots of escape routes. He was chased a couple of times but obviously knew the area well and evaded the pursuit.

I will get rock hard if David Fincher directs this movie.
Zodiac is a masterpiece.

I listen to True Crime podcasts and read True Crime non-fiction books all the time.
Wife and I watch 20/20, Dateline, and the ID channel as our guilty pleasure.
Maybe that's creepy, but if you met me or my wife IRL, you'd think the opposite of creepy I think
