to clarify I would still have to work 40 hours per week, but would rarely have to go over. It seems like I would still be able to set those hours for the most part. Right now, the company likes to avoid paying me OT so I work 8-5:30 M-TH and basically don't work Fridays.

I have it pretty good here... got my own private office with a view, am for the most left alone to do what I do etc. The main this is that the # they offer me is right. Just wanted to make sure I don't get totally shafted with this salary move.

They want to give you a 15% raise, but then expect you to work 60 hours a week and not pay you for 33% of them.

I worked salary once. ONCE. Billable hours all the way from here on out. I work, I get paid. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, not gonna get fooled again.

Maybe in your field.

There is no way for me to work more than 40 hours and I'm on salary.

My office is only open 40 hours per week.

Shouldn't be hard to figure out your earnings throughout the years, and having a number in mind that you would accept to go to a salaried payroll.

cant say if it is a plus or negative without knowing your line of work

for me Salary means if I get sick and stay home...I still get paid

if I have done all my work I get to go home and not need to fill out a time card

it means having flexible hours week to week as long as I hit the basic requirement of at least 30 per

not all salary jobs are equal however.

just from your post, sounds like you fit the description of an exempt, salaried, white collar job.

I've never worked hourly, so I can't really tell you. Even when I got my first shitty job out of college I was on salary.

I would think your hours worked are more closely watched if you're hourly, ie they are clock watching for you to clock in right at 8 or right out at 5.

40 hour work weeks are implied not contractual. Work what it takes to get your work done. Work from home more. Take off early on Friday. Take full lunch breaks. All advantages.

Rolling out 2 hrs early on Fri and still getting paid. That's about it

But making up for it by working on a weekend or late night.

I don't always work 40 hrs per week. Many weeks 35 or so. Others 50. It probably all averages out to slightly over 40.

Truth, but those late nights and weekends suck more than how the early exit feels good.

My company...annual payout (bonus)!potential is double what the hourly folks are getting.

Plus not having someone constantly checking my time and the ability to shift hours around to get some “comp” time.

My salary is higher than I would make hourly even with some good overtime.

I've been salary for 20 years. I really wouldn't want to be hourly. The people who work for us who are hourly have to constantly be worried about if they come back from lunch on time or how much their pay gets reduced if they are missing work for being sick or taking care of family, etc.

When I do work overtime it's to support a project and we are well compensated. Sometimes it gets a big muliplier depending on how the event goes.

Hell, we even have a gym that we are encouraged to use during work hours.

I would need at least a $20k bump AT THE BARE MINIMUM to be switched from hourly to salary.
