I prefer hourly. When on salary, you are asked why aren't you at work. When on hourly, you are asked why you are still at work.

I'm Salary plus overtime..... wouldn't have it any other way.

Same here. Plus Bonus. And after talking around, the Bonus % doesnt change until way up the ladder, so im pretty comfortable right now.

Just make sure you ask about % bonus, any strait pay with over 40 hrs.

The big one is when did you work OT but really not have to..... that time can go way.

I’m on salary and I also get paid for overtime.

To me, being on salary is the company showing you long term commitment. By that I mean they are saying you are worth X amount of dollars regardless of workload. If we get slow, you still get paid the same as if we were busy.

My company also paying overtime shows that they value my time spent on the job. If I have to do extra work, then they are willing to pay me for it.

This is why I prefer hourly.
Also don't like to punch a clock so I have the privilege of writing my own hours in.

One time on one of my salary jobs we had this cheese dick manager that wanted to play the enforcer role. He started having the admin come around at start time and at the end of the day to check on who was at their desk.
I left that place 6 months later. Screw that stuff

You aren't getting into upper management punching the clock forever. This isn't the goal for most of the workforce but it is a definite reality.

If you get paid based on production (skilled trade, sales, etc) hourly or commission is always better.

If you get paid to sit around on push papers (management, cube dweller, etc) then salary is always better.

If I got my pay cut every time I had to go to something at my kids school or took a 2 hour lunch or left early on Friday or got there 30 minutes late I'd be poor
