Speaking from personal experience, I would strongly encourage you to do it. The years you spent in the field will set you apart from other graduates and work to your advantage. If you don’t go back, the same years that you would have been in school are going to pass and you will be in the same position you are in now.
A friend of mine would give you the same advice. He dropped out of college after a couple of years and then worked several years in the oil field. He went back and completed his degree at age 34. He went back to work in the oil industry, but this time in training and then management. He’s had a good career.

I'm finishing my masters in Dec and am mid 30's. It flys by.
My suggestion would be just start as soon as possible. The more you think about it that's just another semester you could've been done with.

Absolutely. Now is a great time to do it, I would steer more towards computer engineering to make it worthwhile but that’s just me. A friend of mine was a mechanic for years and finished his degree in engineering and joined Shell. He was an excellent engineer.

I went back to school at 29-31 for my Masters. Was a pretty dirn good choice.
I'm now 36/37 and thinking about going back for my MBA. Been accepted to LSU, just trying to figure out logistics and if it worth it.

Do it. You won’t regret it. Improve yourself each day and don’t question the timing.

I’m actually sitting in an executive MBA finance class right now. Good stuff on a Saturday morning

I thought this was a thread about what it was like going back to school in the 1930’s.

I would do a finance or accounting degree at night. Then take your work experience and start your own company, scaling with employees as you grow so you shift to a management type role. A trade like welding + an accounting degree + being a dependable person is a dangerous combo.
If I could do it over again, I’d do construction and accounting. I could make a mint with what contractors and builders are charging today.

Honestly, look at the military. Guard in most states will give you free tuition for all state schools. You can still weld and then do evening classes/online classes

I earned three degrees past the age of 45. Do it, or I guarantee you will regret not doing it.

My piece of advice, going back to school puts you back at a starting point. Would advise you to research for intern positions or part time positions while finishing the degree. The IT industry is mostly about experience and certs.

Early 30s with no kids is the equivalent of late teens or early 20s, except you have maturity on your side. As someone else said, early 30s isn’t too old. Age should be the last of your considerations and it sounds like all of the other considerations are weighing heavily in favor of going back. I definitely recommend it.

LSU offers the same curriculum and specializations online if you need more flexibility.

Never too late imo. But if I went back I’d get something such as IT, accounting, engineering, finance etc.
For the most part, business, marketing, history, lib arts degrees are all a wash once you have job experience.. where as the specialized degrees will hold weight throughout your career

Good luck man
Far too many people stay locked in to jobs or careers they hate for fear of change and the unknown
I hope this works out well for you in the end

The person that wrote this statement is getting a master’s degree. I say you’re golden.
