495 BC--On the Aventine Hill in Rome, the temple of the Roman god Mercury was dedicated. It might've happened on May 9th, we're not 100% sure on that.
330--Constantine I dedicated Byzantium—known today as Istanbul—as the new capital of the Eastern Roman Empire.
1775--The Green Mountain Boys, under the joint command of Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold, captured the British-controlled Fort Ticonderoga during the American Revolution.
1804--Meriwether Lewis and William Clark embarked from the American Midwest on their famous expedition to the Pacific coast of North America.
1960--The USS Nautilus completes the first circumnavigation of the globe underwater.

Mother’s Day, holiday in honor of mothers that is celebrated in countries throughout the world. In its modern form the holiday originated in the United States. It was established by American social activist Anna Jarvis, who sought to honor her mother. The first Mother’s Day church service was held on May 10, 1908. The day became a national holiday six years later, and it is observed in the U.S. on the second Sunday in May. Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers, and - any potential mothers, what are you waiting on?
Get busy with it so you can have a fun holiday with flowers, a card and a good meal too.
Yesterday was a great day boiling 30 lbs of 12 ct shrimp but today will be even better with a major brunch. Lots of mimosas and a Bloody Mary bar. Can’t wait.
Go make it up.
And make it happen.
