Newer Silverados and Tahoes are EVERYWHERE. They are not cheap vehicles either. Attractive financing, very competitive truck/SUV products, and low fuel prices are driving a lot of these sales.
Unlike 2006/2007....the American car companies also have competitive fuel efficient offerings as well. If gas prices go up in the near future, they are at least somewhat hedged.

Agreed, and I love that engine. (Check out my u/n)
The world is changing though; smaller displacements and more power.

GM being Government Motors now they are probably using the same calculator that the Department of Labor uses to tell us that the unemployment rate is in mid single digits. I just heard on the radio a couple of days ago how dealers right up a bunch of fake sales at the end of each month to prop up sales figures and then turn around and do refunds the following week.

I read years ago that Ford and GM netted like $10K on most pickups and all pickup-based SUVs.
You can get well in a hurry w/ that kinda money coming in.

The mileage they promote for the 5.3 is based on 2wd models with rear-end gearing so high that they're next to useless for pulling a trailer and a front air dam that looks like a catfish and can barely clear a curb
Ford, Toyota, etc. and does both of these two. They advertise the fuel efficiency of the configuration that is rare on dealer lots.....and they install plastic crap to cut the air flow under the truck. They look especially awkward on some of the new Tacomas and F series.
Trucks and SUVs are hot right now.....and GM has recently invested a lot in their product offerings in that segment.

That figure is a sham in the rear world, with a truck you'd actually want to own.
similarly, the mileage promoted for ecoboost is BS. i know several people with them and they typically get ~15mpg or less around town, and no more than 18 on the highway. all the mpg numbers are bogus

I read something similar about 15 years ago...when they were earning 14K or more in profit for every Escalade during the height of the SUV craze.
Those things MSRP for over $100K fully optioned these days....and they sell.

. The 5.3 is a rock solid engine that gets great mileage. Why in the hell would hey want to change it. The 6.2 is a monster in the half ton pickup that will still push 20 mpg out on the hwy.

After I got my new exhaust installed, I was getting 26 mpg highway with my LS3.

Do the profits include overseas sales? Buick was a big seller in China.

They aren't as powerful while being less efficient. Not to mention Ford still outsells them by a good bit.
I'll throw my .02 in here. I have a 15 f150 s-crew fx4 with the 3.5 eco and 3.55 gears. My BIL has a 15 GMC 1500 z71 crew cab with the 5.3 and 3.55 gears. I drive 80 miles a day to work, round trip, and he drives right at 100. We get identical fuel mileage. We both average around 17.9 to 18.2mpg overall. And if we set the cruise on 63 both trucks get from 23 to 25mpg depending on terrain. The only difference in our trucks performance wise is mine runs like a scalded ape and his runs just like all other 5.3's.
Also as far as aesthetics go mine has much more room in the back seat and is way easier for rear passengers to get into and out of. He has leather seats and I have cloth and they are on par with one another for comfort.

The Ford truck interiors are best in class.
Just can't beat that flat floor.

They look good and are not cheap, but still made with the cheapest materials GM can find.
All those nice suvs dashes will be cracked soon enough.

Hooray for new engine technology that costs twice as much to build, twice as much to maintain, and performs no better.

Truck 2 - 1995 f150 xlt
Truck 3 - 1999 crew cab f150
Truck 4 - 2002 f250 7.3

Long line of fords in my blood, but this 6.2, 1930 technology, tuned to the gmc borla exhaust, is the best damn truck I have ever driven. Power, economy, sound!
