Is the Federal Government now going to invest a hundred trillion dollars into private electric companies to subsidize the buildout of their electrical grid because our electrical infrastructure won't be able to handle the increase in electric power by 2035 without a hundred trillion dollar investment.

They'll be making mo money from selling more electricity. Let them pay for/finance it themselves mkay?

They will buy gas for their portable generators to power up their electric cars.

So what about vehicles already on the road? Gonna take those with my guns?

Need to get these clowns out of office. They want you to follow the rules but it won't apply to them. John Kerry and Sleepy Joe.

This is the biggest challenge to EV growth. People don’t think about it. Replacing gasoline with electricity on the grid isn’t as straightforward as some bimbos think it is. The system is nearly overloaded as it is now. Can you imagine a hot summer evening with everyone also charging their cars?

I have 2019 F-150, LWB, 5.0L V-8, and 36 gallon tank. Cruising at 72-75 mph on Interstate (2 adults w/luggage, etc.) I get 22-23+ mpg - do the math - ~800 miles/tank.

This, especially if they keep killing off current nuclear plants. There isn’t enough solar and wind generators to keep up with our demand, even if they increase the efficiency conversion. Plus, they use a massive amount of real estate compared to current power producers.

So if you plan on traveling further than 200 miles, you are pretty much fricked.

One thing they are consistent on is protecting their truck and SUV market share. If the people want electric, they'll give it to them. If they don't, they won't.

This is all going to be government mandated. Free market principles won't apply.

The question is how long does it take to charge an electric vehicle VS filling up?

Chinese EV firm NIO is rolling out their autonomous battery swap solution, an alternative to the Tesla supercharger/general charging idea:

Swappable batteries also offer up traveling options. It takes an average of three to five minutes for the change to take place in one of Nio's Power Swap stations.

There is a neat video of it in the link

"can't make it to work today, power went out last night and i couldn't charge my car"

Electricity is not a reliable source of energy compared to gasoline. you run out of gas, you get a gas can and fill it up. run out of charge, and then what?

I hope the government doesn't bail them out if this fails.

This announcement is something they can say to get into to good graces of our current political leaders while being able to walk it back later if need be.

Yep and a way to avoid be told to make it happen through executive action or reg.

Toyota and Tesla both warned the US about this two months ago.

Toyota's CEO on Electric Cars
quote:

TOKYO— Toyota TM +0.69% Motor Corp.’s leader criticized what he described as excessive hype over electric vehicles, saying advocates failed to consider the carbon emitted by generating electricity and the costs of an EV transition.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda said Japan would run out of electricity in the summer if all cars were running on electric power. The infrastructure needed to support a fleet consisting entirely of EVs would cost Japan between ¥14 trillion and ¥37 trillion, the equivalent of $135 billion to $358 billion, he said.

“When politicians are out there saying, ‘Let’s get rid of all cars using gasoline,’ do they understand this?” Mr. Toyoda said Thursday at a year-end news conference in his capacity as chairman of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association.

I trust the CEO of Toyota to understand the EV market more so than any politician in Washington DC.

I would put ZERO stock in this. GM said the same thing when Obama was President only to walk back from the statement a few years later under Trump. It’s a Press release with NO actual intention of follow through.

Do do realize 2035 is 14 years in the future?? By that point batteries will have significantly higher range and fast charging will be even more advanced.

The simple fact of the matter. Not to mention power outages being a bit of an issue if that’s your mode of transport. What’s the alternative? Fossil fuel ran generators to charge electric cars?
