General Motors (GM.N) said on Thursday it will halt production at its Fort Wayne Assembly truck plant in Indiana for two weeks from March 27 as inventory starts to outweigh demand with the easing of supply-chain snags.

After two years of U.S. automakers scrambling to keep pace with demand amid a parts shortage, GM's decision to cut production of its highly-profitable pickup trucks signals a shift in the status quo.

Gotta keep those prices high

Nothing like some artificial supply shortage to keep the prices up.

Yep.
There are 4 plants that make the full sized GM trucks. One is in Mexico, one is in Indiana, one is in Michigan, and one is in Ontario.
The shut down the one in Indiana (Fort Wayne), which makes half ton trucks. They did keep Michigan (Flint) running on all shifts - that one exclusively makes heavier 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickup trucks.

I was once GM loyal. The last new truck I bought was a Tundra. I will never buy GM again. Never. I’d rather give my money to a foreign company who makes reliable vehicles here in the U.S. than a greedy U.S. company who builds vehicles in Mexico.

My local GMC dealership is overflowing with both new trucks and SUVs.

So... truck nuts are [on] or [off] regarding this news?

The Toyota Tacoma is made in Mexico.

Still hardly any inventory around here.

"The Toyota Tacoma is made in Mexico".
Wrong...for over a decade. Since 2010 Tacoma is a Texas truck. Made in San Antonio!

Unless it's changed and it may well have, the Mexico plant builds the half ton crew cab trucks and Indiana builds the extended cab trucks. Did a quick search, and looking at VINs that appears to still be accurate.

My 2021 Tacoma was built in Mexico.
Edited to add that they’re built in San Antonio and Mexico.

I’m surprised that many people upvoted this. Trucks and cars are not commodities. If they wanted to charge more they can just charge more. They don’t need to try and manipulate some supply and demand dynamic to list at higher prices
