Guarantees I won’t buy a GM vehicle. This is an idiotic move.

Yeah I’ve gotten so used to CarPlay I would never buy a car without it.

And subscription to use features? Christ. They are just grabbing us by the nuts and squeezing.

According to AutoBlog, “GM’s long-term goal is to turn its vehicles into ‘software-defined platforms,’ unlocking revenue from subscriptions and in-car services.”

I’m not buying a vehicle and then have to pay to use something I’ve already bought. That shite isn’t happening.

They know 98% of drivers won't pay to rip out the infotainment system and replace it with an aftermarket one. But I would, and have done so in the past. I can't wait until Stellantis gets sued because an accident was caused by the lack of Carplay creating distraction.

I'd never buy one of their products anyway, but this is boneheaded.

I fricking hate this subscription marketplace we currently live in. I hate it so much.

You have to think at some point the market responds with classic non-SAAS software. However, pirating is still an issue with that model.

Heated seats, monthly fee
Cruise control, monthly fee

Bunch of Panicans in here. Seriously, sue because of not having something when you bought it and it distracted you. Grow up.

What exactly are you looking for it to do that it doesn't do now?

What GM needs to eliminate is Mary Barra. Simply idiotic move. Like fix the V8s before you worry about CarPlay.

fricktard, I'm not going to sue over that, but someone will. Claims of racism will probably be involved, too.

I've sat in both a Lexus and a Benz that were slightly pre-Carplay era, and the interfaces were so bad and distracting (while parked, to do basic functions) it became a deal killer when I bought my ex wife a car.

I think the market is already responding to that.

It's actually costlier and more difficult to design more tactile systems. But consumers have reacted and it's showing to be less safe to put it all on a screen.

Was never going to buy a GM anyway but I swear to god if the government uses my tax dollars to bail them out when they inevitably fail again I will riot.

Didn't BMW try to charge for Bluetooth around 2010ish? And heated seats?
