Nope. She's just not a fit for this house of family. Happens all the time. Or dog rescues would not exist.

Yep, happens to people who are irresponsible and get a dog they aren't willing to take the time to train.

If you need a shock collar to train a dog more is said about you than the dog.

I have seen dogs with severe behavioral issues, to where this was effectively used. But I see it as a last resort. Kinda when you're at the point of regular occurring aggressive behavior. Positive reinforcement is the best.

The only negative reinforcement I'll use, is similar as in a pack of dogs. I'll pin her head down, and force her to submit on her back, letting her know that I'm the pack leader/alpha. Consistent training is also essential. With kids around that haven't been taught to handle dogs correctly, I'm guessing there zero consistency.

What horrible issues is this puppy having, that you have to get rid of it?

You probably should have considered this before you got the dog to begin with.

Also, tell your son to man the frick up.

Let me guess....

You have shared custody of the kid

Jack Russell is at mom's house. Kid loves dog. Kid tells you how much he loves dog and wants dog at your house

You get a manly dog because kid needs manly dog. Kid does not like dog. You decide that dog not worth hassle since your kid not around enough to work with the dog

Now dog has to go

That sound about right?

So, because your son sounds lazy and doesn't feel emotionally tied to the pup, you sell her to the highest bidder? Wow, just wow. I know you think "it isn't working out" but this says so much about the character of you and your family.

Positive reinforcement is anything done toward the intended audience(dog).

Negative reinforcement is removing interaction from the audience.

Positive/negative isn't used to describe the action. Spanking and giving ice cream are both positive reinforcements bc an interaction occurs. Sitting in silence, removing the interaction, is a negative reinforcement.

The way I see it is when you decide to take responsibility for a dog you keep it until it dies. Man up.

One of the best things about the folks on this board is the great love that we have for dogs.

There are far too many people who just dump their dogs on the street when they no longer want it. It happens quite a lot and I hope that the Good Lord considers this to be a serious Sin.

If people don't want their dog, just bring it to the animal control people or animal shelter. Don't dump it because the dog will suffer greatly before it is killed or dies.

Wow. What great father you sound like. I can't wait to see how your son turns out after all the great lessons you're no doubt going to teach him.

God, you people suck. Here's a good life lesson: if something isn't working out, it's ok to give up and move on rather than continuing to ensure misery.

You sound like a pushover. OP made a mistake. It is better for both the dog and the family to find a better home for the dog.

No I just honor commitments plus it's not really hard to train a dog if you put the time in.

OP shows no awareness that training is required. His plan was for his son to rough house. That is a prescription for a dog that will want to play rough with their great aunt aged 88 when she creaks into the house.

Good job putting it on CL so it'll become a dog fight practice pall for a 90lb pitbull

You are POS if you give a dog away on Craig's list.

If the dog isn't right for your family, do the responsible thing and re-home it through a no-kill shelter or a private reacue group. The no-kill shelters can put you in touch people that rescue/foster.

on the list of things I would never do, giving up on a puppy is pretty close to the top. That said we rescued a bloodhound that was living in a crate in a one room apartment, who was listed on Craigslist

they brought the dog over and spent most of the day with us to make as sure as they could that we would care for her properly, saw our yard and house, etc. I'm grateful for the dog and grateful that the couple made the effort to provide a better life for her
