The mental gymnastics you've done to convince yourself that the problem is the puppy and not you or your son is quite depressing.
BTW that "no-kill shelter" eventually ships off the dogs to the regular pound after a period of time, chief.
Sounds like you're just irresponsible and make bad decisions. It's sad that the dog gets punished for that.

My son who has little interest or my old assed chihuahua who this puppy rolls up all the time is not fair either. The chihuahua is a bitch but now she has health issues and the puppy is just being a puppy.
Making everyone including the dog miserable is not the answer. Not gonna take the dog back to the pound. Not gonna take her "for a ride" (grandpas 1980 solution).

What a freaking cuck, I have 100lb border collie lab mix that's in a 1200 sq ft apartment that between work and personal life I still manage to walk him, feed him, play with him, and come home to him without anything destroyed in the apartment. He also doesn't eat the cat.
Does it get annoying when he wakes you up at 3 in the morning to take a dump? Hell yeah! But outside of children (I feel sorry for yours) there's not a better feeling in the world than seeing both your pets waiting for you at the front door when you come home from work.
