My mom put an akita up on craigslist, that my sister's boyfriend had gotten. The dude and my sister were partying hard and couldn't care for it. My mom wasn't having it. So she took time, and found a family in the country with a few acres. Brought it to their place to check it out, and make certain they were a good fit.

The op hasn't trained this dog at all. It probably isn't even house broken. He seems like he'll give it the first person willing to take it of his hands. Hopefully he'll at least make sure they don't have neck tats.

thing and re-home it through a no-kill shelter or a private reacue group. The no-kill shelters can put you in touch people that rescue/foster.

This is the intent of this post/thread. Any ideas other than CAPS. It just took 3 pages of inter web badasses and prickery for someone to even address it.

You voluntarily took on the responsibility of ownership of a pet. Now be a man and live up to your responsibility.

Hang in there man! The least you can do is try to find a good family to adopt the dog. Put forth some effort and find someone that will adopt and
love the dog.

Wow. What great father you sound like. I can't wait to see how your son turns out after all the great lessons you're no doubt going to teach him.

Lessons
- admit and correct mistakes
- don't pile failure on top of failure
- don't idolize possessions
- animals aren't people and shouldn't be treated as if they are
- ignore moral advice given by the cesspit known as the OT

It's the way you worded the title and overall attitude.

Thread is depressing, make your son watch where the red fern grows.

What type of mutt would you say you have? Shepherd mix?

That's our thoughts with ours.

Evidently y'all think that responsibility includes caring for the dog until it dies, whether or not your home and family are a good fit for the dog.

It's a bizarre belief.

What about the millions of dogs sitting at shelters right now that you could adopt and love? Do you bear no responsibility for them simply because you don't drive down there and pick one up? Theyre going to die if you don't, so how is never trying to adopt them better than trying and failing and having to return them?
Taking ownership of a dog comes with responsibility, but it's not a permanent responsibility.
