That's a relief.

Is an interesting phenomenon. We on earth aren't privy to noticing things appear smaller the further away we get from them.

Yes. Extremely fast. That gif is actually 1/8 normal speed.

Mars rotation is 24 hours, 39 minutes, and 35 seconds if you are interested in the solar day or 24 hours, 37 minutes and 22 seconds for the sidereal day. Since the planet only rotates about 40 minutes slower than Earth, this is one category where the two planets are not very different.

Science!

First of all, his post was a joke.

Secondly i don't think ATCs deal with planets

But mars is not the same size as earth. Factor that in.

Why does the size of mars matter when talking about the amount of time it takes to rotate?

If a basketball and a baseball make one rotatation in the same amount of time, which one is spinning faster?

As if you are on the surface looking at a fixed point

Also, we are assuming the gif is at the equator of mars. Most likely it isnt

Mars is roughly a third the size of Earth. In your example Earth is the basketball; Mars is the baseball. Mars rotates around 850 km/h. Earth rotates around 1600 km/h.

The basketball. The argument isn't which spins faster, but rather the time it takes for each to make a full rotation.

Neither, the angular velocity is the same.
