Another case of a black on white crime swept under the rug by the media, and the city's inequity.

Way to go Jackson!

Coats' bond order from early October states that he should be released if not indicted by Jan. 2. He still has not been indicted and was released on Judge William Skinner's order. Stevenson said if Coats is indicted in the future, he will present himself for the proper proceedings.

How incompetent is the DA? Or is the case really that weak?

How do they not convene a grand jury to indict a man charged with murder when they have 3 months to do so? That's why Coats was released. What is up with the D.A.'s office in Jackson?

He was arrested in late August - why hasn't he been indicted?

I wonder if these two were arrested under pressure to find someone, anyone, for what was described as a "random" shooting and caused some angst in the community? I've read a few articles about the he case and can't seem to find much in the way of details.

Really. Can’t a hold a guy indefinitely. Either charge him or release him. There’s an old saying that a DA can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich if he wants. So either the DA doesn’t want an indictment or there’s just no evidence at all. Usually a DA will at least file a lesser charge just to keep a suspect in custody. Maybe that’s not possible in Mississippi, I don’t know the law there.

bingo. They’ve had plenty of time to indict.

Starting to sound like they picked up the wrong guy.

The other guy doesn't have this same deadline for indictment on his bond order. That's rough.

Not shocked. This type of behavior and the way it's being handled by the local judicial system is what will eventually turn the U.S. into a shithole. At least parts of it anyway.

Not sure how else you would like this handled? You are looking for an angle which isn’t there.
