Where do you want to live? How much? You could probably swing it on your own.

I could probably make it comfortably at $1000/month, and squeeze by at $1,200. Maybe more, I don’t know. I spend a lot on doing house and care repairs. I could probably cut back on that, or even turn those skills into a side hustle.

I thought if I could find a decent person to share a place with, and we both put in 800/mo, we could get a decent place.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Nobody arrives at this decision easily. You're on a soul search journey. Find yourself and go find something that makes you happy. If it's bad enough to separate, you don't owe anything to stay miserable. Go find some joy. And by joy, I don't mean random hookups. I mean, some damn peace and quiet and simple pleasures like fishing or a night out with friends.

The serious answer is Facebook marketplace OP. I tried to help an employee find something recently and there was a decent amount of options on there.

Good luck.

You can also find some hotels (not the best ones) that will do some longer term 2 weeks or a month. Maybe better to do that short term to get everything figured out first.

I never did get a Facebook account. I’ve been told that on Marketplace, people won’t trust you if don’t have an established account with actual photos and posts and stuff.

Would it be weird if I opened a very basic Facebook account for the sole purpose of looking for a roommate on Marketplace?

if i were you, id get one of the several studios/tiny apartments in uptown.

the risk of getting a better place but a nutjob roommate to save a couple thousand dollars isn't worth it, especially with what you're going through, but that's just me

Roommate from a website. Seems like a great idea.

Based on my experience from a few decades ago, your roommate will expect you to smoke a lot of marijuana and entertain women that are 30+ years younger than you. You will need act like this

Go buy a cheap used camper van and park it in the count’s ancestral home driveway. Let it be a reminder to her.

Don't you have a buddy or relative with a spare room where can crash for a couple of weeks while you figure it out? Hell, I'd sleep in my office before getting an ill conceived roommate.

I'm divorced twice, and haven't had a roommate (non-wife) since college. I'd rather a tiny studio or live on a boat/RV than a shared 2br with a roomate.

I’d imagine this.

Being separated after 3 decades going to be hard enough man. Can’t imagine you’d want some random hanging around at that time.
