Getting blasted on work trips….

…I’ve never understood this concept.
Granted, I travel for work quite a bit so have my routine down pretty well. If anything, I enjoy cranking the AC down and the peace and quiet of relaxing in the hotel. I’ll hit the hotel gym in the morning or map out a run in the afternoon on a local trail. If with a group, may go out to a nice dinner one of the nights, but that’s about it.
Why do some people feel the reigns are off on a work trip and party their tails off?. I couldn’t imagine sitting in meeting rooms, conferences, or airports feeling like complete trash. Those places can be miserable enough.
Was observing a group of younger baws at the hotel breakfast this morning. One appeared to have to go back up to the room and vomit, and the other two looked pretty rough. I just don’t get it. When I say younger, I’m talking prob mid 30s. SMH.
What say you OT? What’s your typical work travel routine?

It's like the old saying goes - Boss makes a dollar, I get paid a dime so I'm always shite faced at work.

I see this too often - check into room, hit the hotel bar looking for side action

Were you ever young and out of town?

Probably have young kids so they bottle it up and let loose too hard when they're "free" for a bit.
I'm with you, meetings & conferences suuuuuck with a hangover

Because they have a wife and kids now and this is the only time where they are unsupervised for a few days

I don't party, but I will hit the lobby bar for a couple cocktails and go to bed on time.

When I traveled for work, I went to close deals.
Showed up on time, prepared, got the "Yes" from the C-level, and GTFO.
If I drank with clients, it was club soda & lime.
Emulate success, not failure.

You seem to observe other baws a lot

All of my coworkers are located in different states so we never see each other unless it’s at a meeting, which we usually meet 2-3 times per year. We like to go out and have a good time when we are together. Sorry not sorry

i've definitely been guilty of drinking more than i should at a work trip, but always by myself and never getting "blasted."
i buy a small bottle of bourbon and work on the laptop or watch something. Hilton Garden Inn usually has a bar with sports on and I'll use my room credit for a single bourbon on the rocks and then pour my own as the evening goes on. that way i get a bit of ice and to tip the guy for giving me a glass.

Same here. Some people love to stay out all night and get plastered, even people older than me (I’m in my 30’s). I guess I have that out of my system because the older I get the less I like to “go out” but a few drinks with a small group I like
Having a few drinks at the bar on the company tab and head to bed is my routine.
I’ve also seen someone get fired for getting too drunk at an offsite so always been guarded when drinking with co workers

local trail
Man, my work trips never involve places with trails. Im usually in a downtown metro area. Maybe an arts district or something

Ha! That's one of the reasons why I stopped drinking.

As you mentioned, b/c they are young and feel they have this short freedom especially away from home.

When I first started traveling for work, I learned really quickly that the hotel bar is the last place you want to get drinks. You'd think your own hotel is the low-key, "safe" option for a simple drink in the evening, but it is crawling with people on work travel trying to hook up.
Safer at an actual bar out in the city.

I stopped the getting drunk thing a while back on trips, but there was a certain satisfaction that came from being able to drink on the company card.
Now I plan for my restaurants a month out. And yes it's a damn good feeling to be able to get to the hotel room early and go to sleep early.
