This reminds me of a quote a friend told me many years ago when he was doing the "Iron Butt Coast to Coast Under 48" where he left the Atlantic coast of Florida and rode cross country to San Diego and the coast of the Pacific. It took him just over 46 hours to accomplish it.
On the way back, at a much more comfortable pace to get back to Florida he stopped at my house in N.O. for a visit and a night's rest. We were out on the back porch knocking down some cold beers and he said "Coming back on the return trip he spent 2 days crossing Texas and caught up with some friends--------------and it was the longest week of his life". He said from the western border of Texas to damn near Houston was a miserable ride.

There have been navigation problems with American troops overseas because some of them think rivers are not supposed to flow north. Rivers flow downhill, they don’t care about north east south or west. It just happens that a lot of rivers in the US flow south. Many rivers around the world flow North. The Nile flows North.
