or when you were limited on games you could get, trying to hide the next game you wanted behind a shitty game in hopes it'd be there when you come to swap it out

How did they go out of business besides higher prices compared to Walmart, Amazon, and all that

You just mentioned the main reason.

That and you don't have to worry about calling, and seeing if something is in stock.

I worked retail as my college job, and they got stuck in a bad cycle. Sales numbers would start dropping, so they reduced staff to accommodate it, then there weren't enough people on the sales floor to support the customers that came in, so then customers would get a bad taste in their mouth and then not come back. It was a loop that killed retail.

You'll see the same articles currently written about Toys R us being written about best buy, Dicks, Academy, etc. in 5-10 years. Many of the customers that go in those stores now use them as show rooms, and then they go home to Amazon and buy them cheaper. Retail in general is free advertising for Amazon.

Freaking non-gender identity is the progressive answer.

Sad that kids today will never know that feeling.

But your parents may never have had that feeling, either. For me, smaller stores with an aisle or two of toys. Christmas was getting the catalogs and choosing a doll or two that I wanted. (Catalogs: Sears, Mont. Ward, and one that I don't remember the name of but it was hard bound, and each family in the Company got it for one night because maybe it was wholesale.....)

The Toys R Us on the Westbank (Belle Promenade) was right next to Blockbuster. Friday nights were awesome.

Naw, man. There's nothing like walking into an entire store of toys as a kid. Amazon doesn't provide that joy.

Kids were fine and dandy before Toys R Us and they'll be fine now that it's gone. Adapt your business model or die.

I quit asking my pops to take me after he refused to rent some PG-13 shite for me... I was like 8.

GMaw would hook it up though. I must have watched James Bond: Goldeneye and Hot Shots Part Deux 132 times.

My 7 year old was asking to go to Toy r Us the other day, to pick out birthday presents for his upcoming birthday. He was devastated when I told him it was closed. He used his little kid reasoning and said, "ok let's go tomorrow." I actually felt terrible telling him it was closed for good.

That feeling of 7 year old walking into a completely full toys r was like magic. I will miss it.

Luckily my area still has a couple independent much smaller toy stores for us to shop in and course there still is the Walmart. I not a fan of Amazon and looking at toys on a computer just isn't the same.

It was fine for me. But the only 2 Toysrus locations I had ever been to were Metairie and Marrero, so guess I didn't know what I was missing out on

There was nothing like that feeling hoping a videotape was behind a box somewhere. Then if not, going to the counter to see the recent returns

I worked there for a year. I loved arguing with the people that would lie about not returning tapes late. Those frickers were always so full of shite.

Not sure about the others, but Best Buy will price match vs Amazon as long as its sold directly by Amazon and not one of their 3rd party vendors. Just pull the item up on your phone and show the cashier.

ETA: Best Buy price match

quote:

At the time of sale, we price match all local retail competitors (including their online prices) and we price match products shipped from and sold by these major online retailers: Amazon.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, HP.com, Newegg.com, and TigerDirect.com.
