Geoffrey is retiring tomorrow. It's sort of depressing to see him leave.

My parents would always bring me there in the 80's. I could never figure out what I wanted to buy.
Kids these days are missing out.

No Blockbuster or Toys R Us

But parents are not missing out.
Amazon, baw.
Have the toy magically show up at the front door. You're a hero.
Instead of the old- Have a whiny kid cry for every toy he wants but you can't afford. You're a villain.

No justice, no peace. Where else am I supposed to go to buy LEGO for 30% more than I can get the same product on Amazon?

I don't think kids have that same feeling browsing Amazon for a toy as they do being surrounded by toys.

Naw, man. There's nothing like walking into an entire store of toys as a kid.
Amazon doesn't provide that joy.

Blockbuster absolutely deserved what they reaped - SSSSOOOOOO many people warned regional management in 2005/2006 of what was going on with Netflix, Redbox, and the dumb as frick no late fees policy but they didnt give a shite. It's the one job that I quit and felt like my life was better because I left their complete stupidity behind.

How about that? Tomorrow is my last day at my job too. At least I'll have an unemployed buddy to hang with now.

Yea, kinda bummed my 20 month old won't get that same experience that I did. But her life is still pretty good

Took my kids to a store a few weeks back and ended up talking with another dad. He was there with his son and the first thing he said was, "boy, you'll never get to experience what it was like coming to this place."
We started laughing and a couple other dad's walked over just smiling and talking about some of their memories.

Amazon is great no doubt, but there was something magical about a 7 year old me walking into that place. I never knew what I wanted and the rows and rows of toys seemed endless.
Every year for my birthday, my Mom and Dad would take me. They'd always have some gifts for me they bought ahead of time that I would unwrap at my party, but they always brought me to Toys R Us so I could pick out one toy on my own (normally for $20 or less, but to a 7 year old in the early 90s, that was a huge budget ).
Sad that kids today will never know that feeling.

There was nothing like that feeling hoping a videotape was behind a box somewhere. Then if not, going to the counter to see the recent returns

Saved up all my money from cutting grass to buy the first PlayStation there. Still remember how excited I was to bring that ticket to the register

I remember my BREC Football Season the year the one in BR opened. We'd go by every Saturday morning after our game to see if it was opened yet. I remember signs saying it would open before Christmas. That place was Heaven on Earth to a 11 yr old.

Its like part of my childhood dying. Nothing like going to Toysrus when I had saved up allowance and birthday money or for a reward for bringing home a good report card.

How did they go out of business besides higher prices compared to Walmart, Amazon, and all that
