I made a pretty cohesive argument about bar tenders getting less tip than waitresses based on goods sold.

$1 per drink. I generally drink draft beer or bourbon/whiskey neat

I've bartended at a high traffic college bar for the past year or so. My rule of thumb when I go to other similar bars is a dollar a drink.

From experience, I would rember you and just skip over you if it was crowded. If you are going to be cheap, you can wait longer than everyone else.

Bartenders make a shite ton of money, why should I have to tip them? If anything, they should tip me.

You watch everyone to see what they put in the tip jar?

I tip at the end before I leave based on the quality of service provided.

I run a tab and tip 15-20%
One bar i go to, the bartenders always "forget" to add in a few drinks on the tab, so i add that amount to the tip

It all depends on the service you want or expect to receive.
If it's a dive place that is slow, I'll tip by the drink usually a buck each time or 50 cents if it makes the change even.
If it's a restaurant I'm inclined to tip a little less for the drinks for some reason as there'll be food making up most of the ticket cost. Just roll it all in at the end.
If it's a club and it's crowded, I'll pick the bartender that makes eye contact w/ me and If they serve me quickly I'll over tip and tell them that they're my bartender for the night and I'll see them soon.
When I was college aged and we went to a bar that had some dollar beer, coin beer, buckets or bottomless bottles special going on I'd give the bartender $20 cash as soon as I got there to pre-pay my tab and told them whatever I don't drink is yours. There'd almost always be at least 8-12 bucks left if not more and I'd give em another $5 when I left if I had minimum wait time, usually they'd have another ready when they saw me coming up or they'd motion to me if I was having to wait in line.
The other reason for pre-paying the tab, I once got hit w/ extra drinks and a auto gratuity from a shady whore bartender in a tourist trap town on my card... so no more giving a bartender a credit card and getting hammered. If they put their friends drinks on your already paid cash tab they're only fricking themselves on their tip.

The smart ones will never let you know who tipped, but I guarentee you they know almost every person that came throug and know generally if they are a good tipper or not
And you know what bartenders do on their off time? They spend it at the bar telling every other bartender that they see about how big a shite person you are for not tipping. We are a vendictive bunch

20 % usually but if they got a police record and post here 16%

If I'm not gonna tip a bartender, I'm gonna tell them why. It's up to them to correct it

Want to stop waiting for drinks behind 3 rows deep? Want to make sure bartender is looking for you instead of you looking for him?
At the beginning of the night drop $20-$30 on him. Show him where you are your group will be. Ask him to keep an eye open for you and your group. Tell him you appreciate how busy he is gonna be later and thank him in advance.
Enjoy your night.

If I am going have several drinks, not really sure how many, I just open up tab & tip off that, if I am going have one or two.. i'll give a $1 or $2 per beer.
