Sitting at the bar or running a tab I total out and add 15-20%. If I'm walking up and paying cash for 2-4 beers at a time I tip around $1 a beer. Always $1 per if draft. Maybe $3 for 4 beers if just bottles. Depends on what they're charging and what amount of change I get back.

This is a good rule of thumb.

Any good bartender, should never do this. You NEVER want the guest to ask for change, because many won't.

I go to college bars so I usually don't tip. Its crowded and dark anyways who cares

You obviously do not know any college bar bartenders. Their management usually doesn't give a frick, and they'll not serve you in a heartbeat. If you cause a scene, they'll gladly have one of the bouncers drag your arse outside.

I've seen college bar bartenders jump the bar and personally drag a drag outside after he was refused service for being a non-tipping douche and then trying to start shite.

They are taking money out of their pocket. If someone had a bill for $14, and payed with a 20, I would give 6 ones.

15% cogs shouldn't be too tough if prices at his bar are exorbitant.
